I hate to bring up the religion or faith aspect of your story but I think it may be dangerous not too because you may think "gods plan" or something along those lines.

Trust me praying and god had nothing to do with your success or your luck - Yes putting your last $100 on a $200NL game and coming away a winner is luck - I don't care how good you are or whoever does this is.

Furthermore allowing your gf/wife to blow through your bankroll when you are becoming a winning player is ridiculous and then after getting extremely lucky and winning with that $100 allowing her to play again,,,

If this story is true you may be the luckiest person in the world and I can't in good conscience say what you want to hear and that is "go for it"

As others have said it sounds like you have a gambling addiction - I wouldn't say "give up on your dreams and aspirations" but I would say if you are going to attempt to achieve them find a way to do it without risking your family or your bank roll but don't do so unless you can control yourself and have blessing from your loved ones.

Poker has an element of chance added to it, there may be combinations of wins and losses, ups and downs. What you should aim for is to get a steady job that pays u a secure income and enjoy a little poker on the side as a hobby or money generating activity. Balance your life out, look for any decent job, secure your family and enjoy life. Good luck.

Just remember if you don't take the shot you would never know what would have been and maybe you would regret it. Just make sure that whatever you decide just have FUN and remember its just a game.

Taking the shot and missing could potentially be worse then not taking and never knowing.

Sure we could double our NET worth by putting it all on Black at the roulette table and we have a 49% chance of doing it.
I don't mind shot taking but that shot shouldn't cost us our entire clip.

Also, this isn't just going to affect him there are multiple people this would involve. So my advice to him is if you are going to chase your dream(s) find a way to do it without risking everything.

Semper stop... youre giving me horrific flashbacks of big roulette spins where I took HUGE shots and lost everytime!

If you have truly turned your life around like that then as far as im concerned youve already made it in poker! Don't be consumed with a pipe dream when you've already turned your nightmare into a real live dream!

As far as going bust, it happens. Its happened to most of the best players in the world im sure. Its the nature of the game when you play outside of your roll. I think you should relax, take a step back and appreciate everything you've done and stop worrying yourself with what you want to be able to do next.

If you want to be an optimal poker player it helps to be an optimal person. I think if you sorted out some of your personal stuff and realized that everything doesn't have to be on the line all of the time you would be a happier, healthier person. Which will translate to you being a better poker player.

Happiness is in the pursuit. So my advice is to enjoy the journey, don't be consumed by the destination.

Good luck to you.

we can't change who we are but we can plug the holes.

Never give up your dreams, work hard to improve your game. We can't change who we are, if your dream is to be poker pro, you should go for It.
But, you gonna stop playing side games; baccarat, bj, roulette, and other casino games. They will destroy you.
Good luck

I really loved reading your story about how much poker has changed your life. It was nice to read such a genuine account of what a roller coaster gambling can be. I don't mean to be rude or condescending, but as someone in the healthcare field, I couldn't help but worry about how much poker has affected your personal life and mental wellbeing. As a few people before me have suggested, it might be beneficial to take a break from poker to try to find a better balance between poker and your home life. Exploring other things in life that give you joy could help to put you in a better state of mind to return to the game and to fully enjoy the ride if/when you do. It seems like you have a lot of potential for a successful career in professional poker, but you mentioned yourself that emotions and personal issues greatly impact your play, so it sounds like you know that you need to make some changes before really getting into the game.

On a side note, I was wondering if you've ever thought about pursuing other poker-related work, like coaching or teaching, developing poker learning tools/materials, writing or speaking about your experiences, etc.? You have an inspirational story that could really help aspiring poker players, and it could be a way of compromising with your wife by not playing but sticking with your passions for poker and helping others.

an account of his life that must analyze carefully, because I'm saying that not everything in life happens the way we want, be it in the loving side, material or financial.
but let the facts in relation to poker, this I would like to say that dreams do not happen from night to day, and that not everything comes immediately!
often we are playing and we dreams, where we are rich and powerful, and the destination says ... no!
we can not give up, if you have a dream to be professional, fight for it, give up this time will not show you was weak, but he had the will power to find other means, and not the poker to win in your life,
therefore, any action we take to be happy are valid.
