Those who know nothing about poker almost always say that poker is just gambling and nothing else. There is definitely a lot of skill involved in poker and the better player you are, obviously the more likely you are to make money on a consistent basis. On the flip side, i also believe there is an enormous amount of luck involved in poker. Maybe i just have terrible luck lately but even when i play optimal poker i sometimes run into some ridiculous run bad. For example, i have AA.... I raise pre anywhere between 4-7x the bb... This depends on how the particular table is playing. I get called by AK or whatever and they flop Q,J,10,blank, blank... That would just be bad luck. Or even worse, some super donk calls with Q7 or whatever and flops 2 pair and i dont improve, thats just very bad luck. This has happened to me more times than i believe should have happened. So my point is i guess there will be times in poker when all the skill in the world will mean absolutely nothing if you just have terrible luck.

Hi, I think skill definitely counts a lot in a player's poker result.
Now, as to whether you have a premium hand and lose to 72o, we shouldn't call with luck or bad luck, it's a random statistical issue that occurs in any sport.

Luck influences, but in the long term a good player is a winner, despite not only luck, there are many factors, situations at the table, players, etc. and for all that, patience and constant study are essential:jd4::jd4::jd4::jd4:

Hi.
I'm more inclined to believe that poker is a sport. At least, my personal attitude to this game allows me to consider poker more of a sport than a gamble. For me it is a hobby and entertainment in my free time. In fact, I play for fun, and the money I win for me is a nice bonus.
Good luck.

For me, poker is a way to make money. If I could earn more money somewhere than in poker, then I would quit this business. For others, it's a gamble and they won't give it up for anything.

poker

Poker to me is a game like any other crd game. Yes skill is involved but I don't consider it a sport. As far as gambling yes usually when money is involved it is gambling but also remember when playing as a kid learning the game match sticks were use thus not to me anyways was this gambling lol

Good luck all

There is nothing concrete to say that it is betting or sport. Let's admit it, poker is a mix of both worlds.

I agree poker is not just gambling! You can play any well, if you are unlucky you will not be successful. The examples you mentioned prove this to me.
But I believe the more knowledge you have, the less luck you will need!

Yes, terrible luck happens on a hand-to-hand basis. In any given hand, there are specific odds on whether or not your hand will win. Even someone with one out on the river can sometimes beat you. They had a 2.2% chance of drawing that card and got lucky. Yep - that is the luck part of the game. BUT, given the same situation 100 times, you will win the other 97.8 times, making you a big time winner - over time.
As I have said many times on Cardschat - everything is focused on winning in the long run. That is where our skill wins out over luck.

each one has a theory for me poker doesn't just depend on luck but on skill and patience to get in at the right time because it doesn't go in all hands that even with luck you will lose

You need to be able to combine sports with other hobbies. Go to extremes or or is it not a constructive approach:jd4::):jd4:

I believe that any card games are first and foremost gambling, although they are very similar to sports. So, I think poker is a gamble and I'm a gambler.

Well I've always looked upon poker as a sport, or to some a business too. To be approached with dedication and study. Others just slosh their money around and trust to luck, they are the gamblers, the ones who bankroll the whole show.!! Take it easy my friends, and have a good one!!

So we came to the conclusion that skill and luck in poker go hand in hand, players who can balance emotion, skill, luck and bad luck are probably the ones who achieve good results compared to players who play only with luck.

Its a sport ofcourse. Its just that the variance for tournaments is very high. One needs a significant edge over opponents to make money consistently.

It's not just luck. But in the style of the game. Sometimes, if a player has not bluffed before, and has not raised much, in order to save the chips, you need to reset even AA, but this is very difficult. Such a pair does not guarantee a win... This is the skill of the player to use the moment when the card is playing. It happens to everyone that there are straight lines, flushes, sets and Full house with a square for an hour or more in a row. Then there is no card for a very long time. You need to be able to use a bluff if you are sure that the opponent does not have a card. Luck is of course very important, but you need to be able to lure the enemy to take more on a good card.

i think that poker is a skill game/sport , not anyone can play it , my opinion the luck factor comes in the last 2-3 tables of the tournament when the big blinds are very high :)

Hello.
In my opinion, poker is not a sport. Poker is a gamble, and we are all gamblers. Although both sports and poker require patience, discipline, skill and experience, I do not think that poker is a sport.

I don’t consider poker to be a game of chance, as in many years of playing there has never been such a feeling, unlike casinos. I felt poker more warmly as a sports game.

Poker

The rate of someone having terrible luck is so small. Stays under 1%. I believe if you are skilled then you will win most of the time. Just believe in yourself and know that not every aggressive action is a value hand.

One of the rooms, I will not name it, advertises that poker is a sport. But I don't quite agree. Yes, there is a competitive spirit, but it's still not a sport. Likewise, I cannot attribute it to gambling, because here not only luck, but also long work, knowledge is needed. Although where without luck?) For example, today there was a distribution: I open with AK and two all-in 74 bb and 49 bb fly at me and with what do you think, 93 and 72. 93 wins))
