What do you think online poker might look like 5 years from now. Assume the UEIGA does not exist.

I envision, even faster internet connections, giving the possibility/probability of live players (via web cams) action. This may only occur at premium sites, probably will involve subscriptions, and specific hardware. Wide screen Video will be very common then, so multiple windows actually showing each player, along with table talk, banter, and even pesky kids come to check out poppa, will display, alongside built in poker tracker like stats.

The hardware for such a game already exists, the software is probably in development somewhere.

For non subscription action, I think audio will greatly improve, to the point where we could have actual voice chat, as opposed to the current chat box/typing thing.

What do you think it could be like?

Interesting thoughts

Live all in chat could be interesting but especially with the far east coming in will it be language limited? The frustration that could occur if a few players are speaking in a language no one else understands?

If I had the capital to build an online gambling empire I would build one similar to WOW but better. A full on world where you can create your own avatar and travel around in it, go to a poker room and choose a game to sit in. A real table with other avatars of real people as close to real as possible. The world would include travel from casinos in Las Vegas to Atlantic City, to Monaco or where ever.

I would try to get sponsorship from each casino represented by the real casino. You could use either real money to buy cars to travel from casino to casino, or jets to fly to poker tournaments around the world. If you were a high roller you should be able to hire a limo and throw parties at exclusive clubs. I would try to make the in world currency earn it's own value which probably would be different than real world currency and have a practical exchange rate.

There's a lot that could be done to make this highly attractive, fun and profitable. online casinos like Full Tilt and pokerstars who dont have physical locations could be on the moon or on asteroids ... even starliners. heheh it could be awesome.

I like your whole idea with the world and everything, but you would have to think about how it would effect the people who just want to log in, chill and play poker. instead of turning it into a big game where you have to run around etc. I think part of the appeal of online poker is you can just log on, and play, pretty much instantly.

my 2 cents

As cool as that may sound, I'd prefer the way it is now, as I'm sure many would. Think about how online poker was 5 years ago. How much different was it? I'm sure some gimmick site will try something like this, but I don't think it'd catch on. I see much of the same, of course with new software updates and faster gameplay.

That's the beauty of the virtual world... OPTIONS, anyone who just wanted to teleport or log in at whatever casino could do that. But hey if ya get a bad beat you could go out jump in your Viper and Drive from the Bellagio in Vegas to the Bicycle in LA at full speed, or fly a jet, or starfighter and blow up flying donkeys or something ... LOL

A LOT of thinking would have to go into the development of a virtual world like this to make it fun and easy ... but hard enough too for the more adventurous types to enjoy the challenges.

No matter what the sharks will gravitate to the fish, just build a fish tank big enough to lure them in by the school, the sharks won't mind jumping a few hoops to get to them. :D

tbh 5/10/25 years nothing much will change. The poker sites want players that will play 6/16 tables, and arnt too interested in gimmicks. Have a look at PKR, fishy site, impossible to play more than 2 tables, and the grinders are staying away in droves. The grinders make a site.

5 Years, likely better tracking software, format likely extremly similar.
