Hi,
most, if not all sites actually only allow you to chat in english, unless otherwise stated (for example in regional tournaments).
Great, but pretty often I see countrymen chat in another language, which actually does not bother me much.
Still tho, I sometimes wonder about the meaning of words in, for example russian.
I speak and understand about 5 languages, but russian is not part of it.

As this being a very international community, we might probably be able to help others out, if they wonder what has been typed in the chatbox.

For me for example, I wonder what PIDAR means...
I see it pretty often typed by russian speaking players and actually assume it means FISH, but I'm not sure.
Same goes for PRET, also used by russian players.

Someone able to help me out on those ?

I might be wrong but i thing "pret" comes from "privet" which means hey.

I understand many languages which use Cyrillic alphabet as most of them are similar or very close. I rly dont like when some1 is typing something i dont understand. Problem is that many ppl dont know english too. No one can stop them playing what they want, where they want and speak their own language.

Pret blin nichego translates roughly "tough F ing luck or bad fortune" .
I don't know if it is some shortened version or not. At least that is what I found.

I know they're technically not supposed to, but I've been trying not to let it bother me, particularly since Black Friday and the disappearance of American players.

Players from non-English speaking countries make up such a huge part of the player pool now, and I figure there's no point "tapping the glass" trying to insist that they converse in English - better not to risk upsetting them and have the game break.

If it looks like they're actually colluding, that's a different matter. But you've gotta assume most of the time it's just ordinary innocent table banter.

english is official language, and chating on other language is not allowed, but there is no person who tracks breaking of that rule, and that kind of communication became common. players are expected to report that kind of behavior.
i am not bothered with that as long as i dont see that countrymen are arranging their play in HU

Priviet - hello

Pizda - vagina

Suka - bitch

lox - something like idiot

Pidar - something around gay

Pasol Nahuj - go **** yourself is how you should understand, go sit on dick is what it means literrary

I could go on forever, but the point is there are so plenty of russian players, who just swear and rage and call people names, they are not inteligent ones, they live in half of the Europe, it may seem like that guy is from Europe, but if he talks russian he propably is russian and never even learned that country language he lives in.

Point is stop caring, these people get their minimum vages and than drink it off in alcohol and casino games like poker, but if you want to learn any language, just start doing it

One of the sites I play on is thick with Italians, especially at certain times of the day. Of course there are occasional comments in what is obviously Italian. For the most part I'm more curious than concerned, and usually just let it go. I do sometimes translate it with either google translate or Bing translator, especially if I see a sustained conversation between two players in a foreign language. In fact that's how I happened to notice the collusion between two players taking part in a freeroll early one morning that prompted me to start the following thread.

pidar or pidaras - faggot
pret or poperlo - is a usual word meaning you are very lucky at this moment

Let me know if there will be other questions
As for me i saw a lot of ignorance at the tables from non-Russian players too,
i guess this happens more often at freerolls or low limit games.

Hello.
Being a non-native english speaking player myself, I occasionally chat with my fellow countrymen in greek too. No secrecy or collusion intended, just the fun of cussing in your own language is too strong to resist.
:icon_joke
Seriously now, if you suspect collusion just call a moderator and alert him for the case. Otherwise do not bother. I know a lot of players, good ones that turn off chat unless they play with friends.
As for the occasional light racism around the forum, give it up guys.
Good players and bad, smart people and stupid, practically every dualism you can think of has nothing to do with origin, country, race, sex and other non-controllable facts of one's being.
Remember chess. Best players were Fisher, Karpov, Kasparov and many others around the world.
So are poker professionals from all over the world, right?
Russian are not stupid, they are aggressive. They study poker a lot and there are numerous sites on the matter. That doesn't make them good or bad to start with. Just aggressive. Play them accordingly and remember the "russian nuts" (62o). :icon_joke:icon_joke:icon_joke

I'm from the U.S. which means I can only play certain sites ex: bcp, acr, carb, bovada. When I'm setting at one of the US sites and some one is talking in a foreign language it annoys me because I'm on a US site. If I was on Stars or Tilt I would understand its a foreign community, but When I'm not I do not like to see it

I don't really care about the chat box. But sometimes when I am really annoyed I write something. But it's very unusual for me. In my opinion there aren't much players who write something interesting. I have often seen people talking in foreign languages and the only question I had if they coordinate a strategy against me or not.

Press ''option'' at the table. Not that hard to find the table options, settings and so on

I find it quite offensive that you can only chat in english and i'm English myself. Considering russians ect make up a large percentage of the networks it does shock me.

A non english speaker could make that same claim. If you that worried you can translate in google, plus i'm sure networks routinely scan chats for this type of thing.

English is not the official language, when you download pokerstars don't you see it ask what language you want to run the software in? Now let's say you run it in French do they expect you to chat in English in the chat box? No. Most ppl chat to each other in their language when they see someone is from the same country. In any language it's up to you to report a player when they say something abusive etc. Sometimes other languages other than English gets more privileges in the chat because a lot of folks don't know what they mean but there's nothing wrong chatting in a diff language of course all the rules still applies, cannot collude, abuse etc.

You may think that is the case but the actual PS rule is quite clear as shown here
http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/room/policies/

17. Except in specially designated ‘national’ tournaments, your chat must be in English. Trivial exceptions (e.g. ‘Salut!’, ‘gracias’) are acceptable.

18. You are expected to chat in a way that would be appropriate in a public, face-to-face poker game. It is strictly prohibited to use chat for any malicious or offensive behaviour, including but not limited to collusion, fraud, spam, and/or harassment. Abusive, foul, racist, threatening or otherwise inappropriate chat will not be tolerated.

There are also reminders in the chat box when a tournament starts and probably at other times

After beat a Slovenian player in a couple of showdowns yesterday on Pokerstars tourny he begun hurling a series of racial and foul insults at me then he begun saying some things towards me in a foreign language (i assume slovenian) and Pokerstars moderators didn't intervene or do anything about it......so I really don't see the point of these rules and its not like we can alert them or anything.....even so, if alerting them were possible, it would just distract from the game....so i say just disabled the chat if u find stuff offensive......because at the end of the day if players wanted to collude, there are much more creative ways to do so such as skype, i.m, phone etc...... just play poker
