Was at a live tournament last night with a $540.00 buy-in, and with 42 entries and 25k starting stacks. One of the players was one of the dealers that work at the club. Of course he wasn’t dealing this night. Nothing unusual about this, since many club workers do enter tournaments from time to time.

We’re down to 18 players left, and the dealer that was playing this evening was getting short stacked. All of a sudden one of the players, (a scary dude I might add) at the other table accused the club worker of shuffling a 5k chip into his short stack. The dealer looked very nervous and completely of course denied it. The player said I saw you sneak a chip from your pocket and shuffle it into your stack. He then got out of his seat walked over to the dealer and put him in a headlock reaching into his pockets and pulled 2 more 5k chips out. He then punched the guy in his mouth spilling blood all over the table and the worker just fell over his seat onto the floor. Everyone of course broke it up. The tournament was cancelled and everyone got their money back. They also announced that everyone that already was knocked out and gone, (no pun intended) will also get their money back.

Of course the club denied any collusion with the club worker, and just said he was able to get access to the tournament chips. They also announced that from here on in, no workers in the club will be able to play in the future.

Talking to the players as we were leaving, sounds like this club will be blacklisted. Anyone I spoke to including myself, won’t play there anymore.

So they wasted your night, I don't like when they allow club workers in tournaments. Similar thing happened in a local weekly freeroll I go to, and they have banned workers from entering and they also take up table chip counts about every hour and if they don't add up...thry know something isn't right.

Yea, sort of wasted my night. Almost 3 hours into the game when this happened. My stack was hurting at this point and was going to be forced into play soon, so wasn't that upset to get my money back.

Exactly why staff should never be allowed to participate in events that are in the casino/club they work in.

The club did the right honorable thing in this case. The player should be the one outed. He should be blacklisted from all games at all casinos. As well as forced to look for a new career.

Got me thinking about ways one could cheat in a tourney. Obviously somebody with access to the chips storage, but how about if during early play one were to pocket legitimate chips, with the intent of re-introducing them later?

Parts of an article I read at poker-king.com

Men "The Master" Nguyen doesn't exactly have the best reputation in the poker world.

If you want to find out more about some of the allegations leveled against Nguyen in the past (such as dumping chips to his "horses" who are short-stacked, smuggling chips out of smaller events to use in bigger ones and instituting certain rules as to how backed players must play against him in cash games), then all you have to do is poke around a bit with Google and you will find plenty of interesting reading material.

But how many could you pocket that would make that much difference as the blinds go up. Say you start with 5000 chips, pocket 250, and later on you're shortstacked with blinds at say 80/160, the difference isn't that much, you probably bought yourself only 8 or 9 more hands. Not worth it, and doesn't sound possible if TD keeps count of the chips in play.

Most casinos have rules about chips never leaving the table and never putting them in a pocket or out of sight. Get caught? Guaranteed forfeit.

Depending on the location of the casino, dealers are usually licensed by the governing agency. The dealer's gaming card should be pulled and his name blacklisted so he can never deal another live game.

In many areas, employees are not permitted to do any gaming in their home casino. Obviously for good reason.

wow, you entered a poker tourney and got a show instead. Good thing the guy at the other table was keeping an eye out. Something just must have caught his eye.
Always someone trying to get an edge.

two first for me:

1. knowing a live game to go so bad

2. hearing it called fist a cuffs. I always thought it was fisticuffs. Apparently it can be either.

OP said it was at a club. Sounds like an underground club. In that case, what career?

I wonder how hard it is to get blood out of felt...

I like the fact that in government licensed casinos in Ontario, the dealers are not allowed to play at the tables or in tournaments of those casinos. They aren't even allowed to play at casinos they don't work at but are owned by the same company they do. However, at the underground clubs i've heard and know of clubs "backing" certain players. A little too cozy for me.

I wonder how hard it is to get blood out of felt...

One of the companies I deal for uses tables with red felt instead of green - it's actually to fit the company branding, but it has the added bonus of disguising the red wine stains.

Dunno what relevance that has here, but anywho.

If this was an unlicensed / underground club... well, these are the risks you take, I guess.

As it always should be,
I don't mind losing legitimately but to a cheater I say slap em around the head repeatedly.
