In keeping with Dusty's take on the level of play today (see last thread or so), and the fact that we will soon be seeing an influx of new players IMHO, here is a first draft LOL, please add or change as u c fit:

online poker will soon be available to Canadians and Americans as governments race to legalize it. Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia are three provinces that are considering legislation to open the doors to online poker rooms. Thousands, if not millions, of people who enjoy having a punt will soon be encouraged to join the fray and learn to master the world’s most popular game. Unfortunately, they are facing a learning curve that has already been scaled by thousands of schooled poker sharks, who have at least a five year learning advantage. These sharks eat fish… are you one?

1) Do you think you can play as well or better than those idiots on TV?
2) Would you have more luck learning poker than with the video lotteries at your local bar?
3) Is playing poker safer than Lotto 649?
4) Is poker a horse race?
5) Do you like coin flips?
6) Would you like to be a pro poker player?
7) Is poker a game of chance?
8) Do you think poker is a good recreational pastime on the weekends, along with a few brewskies?
9) Do you have a good sixth sense?
10) Do you have a credit card?

If you answered yes to two or more of the above questions, then you are a fish.

It's fun to talk about fish and what consitutes one. At the same time we all hope that we're not the fish that we are all talking about. However, if you really think there are non-fish, please consider this alternate view.

I find the concept that poker community consists of fish and non-fish flawed and overly simplistic.

The entire poker community is composed of fish so the only questions are: 1) do you have a bankroll; and 2) are you converting oxygen into carbon dioxide; 3) do you have Internet access and an online poker account; and 4) do you play real money games on that account. Answer all four questions "yes" and you are a fish. If you answer any "no", not only are you not a fish, you're not even in the pond. :D

The secret to winning "consistently" is that you play fish that are at a lower in the food chain while avoiding those who are higher in the food chain. The difference between real fish and poker fish (maybe) is that, at any given moment, a poker fish may move up or down in the food chain. This could be due to good or bad luck, or flashes of genius or stupidity.

Also, it would be a mistake to assume that all new online poker players will start at the bottom of the food chain and have to work their way up.

All the above IMHO. :)

Holy wow I'm a super-fish I guess by this standard, lol. I said yes to everything except 4 and 8. Doyle Brunson'd be a fish too cuz he believes in sixth sense, and I'd guess has a credit card.

I'm a blue whale (not exactly a fish) but swimming in the great pond (the atlantic ocean) feeding off plancton.

So I'm happy to be having more fodder available.

Im in BC and would like to know what the implications might be.

Well, check google for the BC policy progress on this, but I would think it means a severe depletion of left coast salmon stocks, and a freezer full of smoked salmon for me. Yum... :itsme:

I voted yes to 7.

You are in the wrong forum obviously. You didn't vote yes to 10 (having a credit card) so I suggest throwing your spare change into a slot machine, bingo, lotto whatever... Poker is too cruel for you! Peeps with smarts will take advantage!! ;)

I don't have a creditcard and don't need it at the moment.
But poker is indeed a game of chance. Poker involves a certain degree of skill but it remains gambling no matter what you claim.

Escape from scam sites is all, there are no taxes to pay on winnings in Canada unless it is your full time job, even then the rules are scant and probably unenforceable by the CRA. The problem I see is that lottery corporations profits are in the 60% range,,,,,,,,that's a lotta rake.:D
