Hi, I'm 16 and think I've become a serviceable poker player, especially for my age. But I'm wondering if I'm the best player at my table should I win every time? I'd say I win about 7 out of 10 times in both my regular games and I'm wondering should I win every time? I just can't help but think since the pros like hellmuth and Ivey probably mop the floor with lesser players then that means I should. So I guess what I'm wondering is how often should I expect to win?

If I understand your post correctly, you feel you are winning more than 70% of the time but should be winning more? Or how do you mean 7 out of 10?

Could you perhaps go into a bit more detail about your win rate? I am curious.

As far as how often you should expect to win? I dont know. I know how much I expect to win. But that is just me.....

Not always the best poker player wins. Often in poker, luck decides everything. A good level of the game helps but not always.

As in life and in sports, POKER is the same. The best person, team cannot win them all. They will win more than there share.

Poker is a game of skill just like chess and backgammon. The most skilled player will win more versus the performance of a lower skilled player.

The best player does not always win as luck has a major factor in terms of upswings and downswings.

it’s youthful maximalism. just such a streak. the best player makes the best decisions, sometimes the pass is the best decision

There is a ton of short term luck involved with poker so the best player does not always win in the short term. Over the course of months and years though (long run), the cream always rises to the top and the best players win.

It is not a rule for the best player to win, that if they were not, nobody would come to the table to play because they would know the outcome. However, being a good player, you have an advantage in the game and you have a high chance of reaching the final table if it is a tournament

I'm not sure what you mean by the "best" player. All players have strengths and weaknesses. The most skilled players are able to adapt their play to maximize their chance of winning. Even these players have short term losing streaks. It's not uncommon for great players to have losses for months at a time, possibly even a whole year. It all comes down to statistics. You want to make moves that are going to maximize your winnings and minimize your losses in the long run. I would also caution you to not get overly confident based upon a small sample of games you play. Every game is different. I started playing cash games with co-workers and had decent success. The first few times I played in a casino I got crushed. I was not able to adapt to the new environment. For each different game, you need to take time to learn the new environment and change your gameplay accordingly.

yes

in the long run!

you have players with a good strategy but a bad outcome and players with bad strategies but good outcome - but over 1000 games the player with the good strategy wins every time😎

does the best player always win?

What missing is the time/ or hands part of the equation. Personally, not good enough to answer, but probably needs to include what sort of gap he has skills-based and if its PL or NL poker and table size.

But, without a doubt, a pro would rip me and 7 of my doppelgangers apart in under a 100 hands.

In poker there is a thing called variance. Sometimes the decks works in your favor, which is where luck plays its part. Variance can make or a break a player. The key aspect of winning poker players, is that long-term they outplay the variance that hits them, always looking to take spots where they are more likely to win rather than more likely to lose

Sure the best players have the advantage over the others but poker is a surprise box and there will always be that crazy one who pays in the gut shot and hits

in larger player tournaments its harder for even good players to win, but in cash games its a totally different game

think he wins only a combination of luck and good game. if one looks at the tournaments where the best ones play, many times the favorites are left out

How many top professionals have won the wsop $10,000. That should help answer your question. In fact how many regularly make the FT.
