So, I recently had a session where the dealer originally shipped the pot the completely wrong way on me. I had a flush and the other player had two pair (actually he also had a flush but no one realized it I guess).
I revealed my cards first (QQ with the queen of hearts), say "I have a flush, but you have the King of hearts, right", and the other player turns his cards face up and says, "no two pair".
But then the dealer tenders him the pot. I have to say "Woah man, I have a flush", he then says "Oh sorry, I only saw the Ace" (I guess he thought I just had pocket queens). There were 5 hearts on board (with ace of hearts). The player to my left says "They both had a flush, why didn't you start chopping it at least first."

I decided not to tip him, even though it was a sizable pot. Should I have? He did seem tired honestly, and he said that he recently gotten the vaccine.:joyman:

Always tip when you win a hand. Dealing is hard enough without people not tipping as well.

I understand, I usually tip over 95% of the time (unless its just the blinds basically), and I did give him tips on future hands. I understand that he didn't do it on purpose, but it really was aggravating for me at the time, it just really seemed like he was not paying attention at all.

This has never happened to me but I would still throw him a tip. I have a friend who deals poker at the local casino and he makes a decent living but he works his butt of doing it. 8 to 10 hour shifts many days and a lot of 6 day weeks as 1 or 2 days maybe shorter shift or getting put on at time play is slow and he has to just sit there getting nothing.

I do understand more if you game a smaller tip there but remember its not easy for them at the moment either. casinos are having a hard time getting people to deal and if they were unlucky as my friend, he was out of work for 18 months due to the poker room shutdown. I would give them a break at this point.

Seems like an honest mistake. I would have tipped, even if I needed to resort to calling the floor.
Did the other guy have the A or K of hearts? I might have missed that in your explanation. As long as your Q of hearts was better than any heart in the other guy's hand, I agree that you won.
Dealers are human and make mistakes. Blaming the vaccine - hmmm... never heard of shipping the pot to the wrong player as being a vaccine side effect. Better call the CDC or other health department.

No, to clarify, the other player only had two pair, no hearts in his hand.
To be quite honest, retrospectively, I feel like I should have given him the buck, it was an honest mistake. The next time I see him, I will give him that buck.

A noble gesture on your part. Good for you.

Dealers here get a decent wage, they are earning around $30 per hour, tipping is rarely seen. I may give a tip to the dealer when they get replaced, but not every hand I win.

The typical Dealer salary is $30 per hour.
Dealer salaries in Australia can range from $26 - $38 per hour.

Nice to see such a post, I feel the same way in the sense that they are earning money for dealing in the 1st place so why the hell should they be tipped on top of that wage?

Hello.
I only play online, so of course I don't tip. But in general, in a live game, I think that tipping is a well-deserved reward for the dealer and other service personnel, of course, if they perform their duties correctly.

I think it should be an "unwritten law" among live poker players that all players should have a bonus for that man who does all the work.

I have never played live in a casino, so I never gave a tip, but I think that everyone has the right to either tip or not tip, since this is their job and they get money for it, but you still need to encourage the dealer if he does his duties are good and competent! Good luck to everyone at the tables, be kinder!
