Three little words you need to understand "Bank Roll Management"

For whatever stakes you play Ex. .01 /.02 Max buy in is generally 100bb so $2.00 You should have 20 buy ins to play these stakes to fade the variance. So $40 min. in your poker bankroll. If you don't have $40 play free rolls until you get $40 if you lose some buy ins and go under $40 go back to free rolls until you get properly rolled again.

For tournaments it should be more around 100 buy ins or some say 2% of your total bankroll so for a $2 buy in tournament you would need around $100 minimum in your bankroll.

People generally use cash games to fill the voids left behind from MTT's because even though the pay off's are higher you will go much longer lengths of time in between cashes.

Sticking too it will be the hard part it sounds for you. You have to have self control, and ignore the urges if you are wanting to fix this problem. That being said if you just want to have fun and learn until you become profitable, you can allow yourself a Budget of. X amount per week and once you lose that money don't play or deposit until your Budget allows. After you feel you have learned enough to start building try BRM.

BRM is generally for people who don't have an additional income and is there to avoid going busted in the long run since it's there only source of income. I'm going to quote something that someone sent me a few months ago that helped out as well it will be my next comment and it's from Spewster.

"Well, I don't know if it helps but I'd look at your situation from another perspective:

Gambling addiction is no psychological problem, it's a physical one. Certain parts of the addicts brain react to events that are called "near miss".

So if I was in your shoes, I'd google "gambling addiction near miss" and read up on this stuff. Really interesting and somehow it affects everyone of us (meaning the guys who are into games where chance plays a role).

Thing is, you need to understand WHY you're not satisfied when you win at small stakes and WHY you want to put everything on the line over and over again. I wouldn't say I have a gambling addiction, but I definitely have tendencies....and always loved longshots.

Studying this behavioral pattern helped me to chance my motivation from making money to getting better at the game and finally I'm moving up stakes.

So perhaps you try it, too. For me it was an eye opener and I'm much less stressed out when I run into coolers or have a loosing session."

Good luck with BRM.
I would reduce the buy-in advised above by a factor 5 to allow for some fall-back into sub-optimal play. This is still withing normal BRM, but more towards the safe side.

Unfortunately this is me ,you and many more like us my friend
until we learn to have a proper bankroll management .
I keep repeating to myself to stop tilting and play with a proper BR management but ,
I never kept to my promise and play way above my BR.
I still hope I will be able someday to be more serious as I am sure I have what it takes at least in the micro tournaments to climb .
Good luck to you all with the challenges.

I don't suffer this problem anymore! Luckily I've already made a lot of progress on the psychological and tilt doesn't affect me as much as it used to.

After suffering so much from this, I'm finally managing to control my psychological and I'm already making a difference in my bankroll!

Two Very good post. Thx. I agree, self control is a MUST and it can be pretty hard at times but I've noticed that there is a certain reward in and of itself when you successfully resist the urge to be compulsive. Knowing When and How to step away is critical and Must be implemented or its best not to play at all.

Some great replies. gambling addiction is real. Playing way below your living level can certainly help. Bankroll management is good. But going for the gold with good overall life limitations should take care of it. It's a tough call because playing those micro games will drive you nuts as real poker is never played. Good luck.

The answer is "no". Bankroll management is a crucial aspect of poker and will save you money. I recommend you check out some online articles on the subject and have the discipline to use them. Self control goes alongside bankroll management, thus I recommend Jared Tendler's The Mental Game of Poker. Maybe it'll help you out!

Have you heard about stop loss limit? That means leave credit cards at home, and take to casino just enough cash to buy-in let`s say 3 times.

I have no dependence on the game, and therefore it is easy for me to control myself. I look at everything, first of all, from the practical side. If the game does not give me a profit, I leave it. This is a waste of time.

I always try to control my emotions.
If I feel that I am too emotional, I immediately stop playing.
I am convinced that without the control of emotions you will not be able to become a successful player.

I find myself doing the same thing. I've got to differentiate between when to cash out and when to play for broke. I also need to know when to call it quits and not rebuy and just go home. There's bill money and play money and I need to differentiate between the two. I know this didn't answe your question but at least know your not the only one with the problem.

Yep

I usually play until I run out of the bankroll I brought with me to current casino. Or until I at least triple my bankroll!

Hi.
Usually I play 3-4 hours a day. Therefore, it does not matter whether I win or lose, I actually have no more time than 3-4 hours.
Good luck.
