for more than a month I've only been playing freerolls and I'm playing more and more poorly, as if I'm not as motivated anymore. When I played cash or a tournament on my by in I was much more motivated, I wasn't willing to make mistakes and we had comparatively superior results.
Do you think that by putting your money at stake you are more responsible in your decisions?

I would hope you played them differently, and tbh you need to step away from freerolls for the moment.

Multi-table at the very least...I never sit there with a freeroll being my soul focus. I only play them with the intent on min cash for having the window open.

" Do You think that by putting your money at stake you are more responsible in your decisions?" Of course, I more rensponsible at these occasions,
because these are not the freerolls, and this is my money! That's all!

I would say I play with the same mind set, be it freeroll or money MTT. You enter it and you play to win it. What differs is how I approach the actually tournament in my strategy. In freerolls you will have thons of people going all in left and right with random hands, while in real money tournaments you have less of that.

Another thing that is different for me while playing freerolls however is that they don't really tilt me at all, even if I had a bad beat. In the end it's free and you lost nothing.

When I play for real money, I take the game much more seriously, and when I play freerolls with a small prize pool, I can even go all-in with any Ax hand, it's more like entertainment for me. And when I want an adrenaline rush, I play in casinos or place bets on sports, but it's only a few times a month

I think most people throw their money at anything in freeroll tournaments. It gets pretty boring just doing freerolls, since it is MUCH more a question of luck than skills. In the freeroll satellite tourneys more or less 4 out of 5 hands ends up with someone going all in. Not exactly a great way of playing constructive poker… 🙂

when I put my money in the game I feel very responsible because I automatically know that I am liable to lose it which gives me adrenaline. And in everyday life in pressure situations I give the best results

You're right and I think we're deviating from real poker, that is, maybe we're imitating other people's mistakes out of habit.

I think you're always responsible for your decisions, there is money to be won in freerolls so that is your money.... or it could be, a lot of players in freerolls don't care but they don't care in real money either half the time so you're the one that has to care... so I think the choice is in your hands, gl

Part of the point of proper BRM is to prevent one from contributing amounts of your bankroll that put extra pressure on you, no?
So to answer your question, nope.

As I always say, discipline is the most important thing in poker. And in these situations is where discipline has to prevail, motivation eventually runs out regardless of the type of tournament you play, and this is where discipline has to be used.

With the freerolls I think we are always aware that they are free and therefore the focus is not totally on making the best decisions, I speak for myself that usually happens to me and I think it unconsciously happens to more people

Yes, of course, when you play for your money, you play more responsibly. But here the character of a person plays an even bigger role, someone plays responsibly in any tournament, and someone in a freeroll is ready to go all-in from 27c in the first hand, although he will never do it in a tournament for his money.

Yes, when your money is at stake you will play much better because you have a lot to lose and when the game is free you know that if you lose you have nothing to lose so you play with no interest
