well some of us are professional poker players who make living out of poker and poker is our daily job. I myself almost introduce myself as a poker player however in some places they don't like that. they look like me as a gambler and they consider gamble taboo.
what about you guys, do you introduce yourself as a poker player? how do you introduce yourself to new people who ask what is your job and what is your occupation currently?

I wouldn't care what people think if I am making more money in life than most people doing what I love.

I'm not pro, my I'm a poker player anyway.

I always tell people the truth, I have nothing to be ashamed of or hide. I do not make money playing poker, at least not yet, but I tell my acquaintances, colleagues, or relatives that poker is my hobby.

I introduce myself as a poker player, because if you introduce yourself as a player, many people associate it with a casino, and this is not true.
Poker and casino are different things, you have to think in poker.

I do not tell everybody that i play poker but i also do not hide it (sometimes i wear tshirts related to poker) and if anybody asks me about poker i am always happy to discuss it.

My job, and my interests are my private business. If someone asks where I work, I answer that I work at home on the computer, without detailing. But of course my relatives, friends, and good acquaintances know what my profession is and what my hobby is.

Yeah, since playing poker is not my full time job, then i don't introduce myself as a poker player. If someone asks about my hobbies etc, i tell them that i really love poker. Someday hopefully i'll be professional poker player.

No definitely not, just like it would be weird to introduce yourself as a professional football or any sport player IRL, would just seem awkward

for me poker is a hobby that i would like to replace with a more useful and money-making business

You can tell people that you are in risk management.
Or maybe tell them that you’re an investment advisor.
Better yet tell them that you sell life insurance, they will surely change the subject.

Normally they do not see it well, as they say they associate it with a casino, with vice, with something that has no difficulty and with a bad reputation for stereotypes from before, perhaps, from movies, etc. I do introduce myself as a poker player and to the people I am interested in knowing more I tell them how everything is and it is very easy to change the way they see poker

I very rarely talk about poker, because many people consider it a bad thing to do. I don't want to waste time explaining that this is not a casino or slot machines, but an intellectual game. Not everyone can understand this.

I do not. I am a poker amateur, but I will never be a poker professional. I do NOT have enough patience for that. Likewise, I have told some friends that I play online poker, and they think I am lying to them when I tell them that there are millionaire tournaments. But hey, they should see for themselves. It's their problem.

I definitely do not introduce myself as a poker player. I do however say I play poker if the person asks what I do. I’m a disabled veteran so I don’t really do much of anything really. Except play poker!! Lol

As I'm not a pro player, I don't introduce myself as poker player. Even tough, every time I say that I play poker I end making new friends (and potentially money givers once we play together lol)

I mention it as a hobby. Lots of different definitions of a Professional. Does that mean it's how you earn a living, or that you are better than an amateur?

I am only starting and I still have a lot to learn. At the moment it's just a hobby.

I just say I work online, makes it much easier.

I do not do it because I am not a poker player, although I have spent a lot of time on it for 4 months. If I considered playing poker, I would surely say so. What I do is comment that I play, that when the opportunity is given in some situation.

If I could make money doing this I would introduce myself as such, but only if someone asked me what I do for fun or for money or something. I'm not just going to put that I'm a poker player every time I introduce myself. That's just silly.

I don't think I define myself as a poker player per se.
Sure, I play poker most days...but I cook most days and don't consider myself a chef.

Poker for me, although I am trying to learn and improve my game, remains a diversion. Something for me to do which I enjoy and doesn't cost me much.

If someone asked me what I like to do, outside of work, sure, I'd talk about poker. (I talk about poker a bit too much probably)...but to me, being a person who plays poker and being a "poker player" are different in my head. I guess I just see it as a Poker player being someone who actually relies on it as a source of income.
I can still go out an kick a football (soccer ball) around, but that doesn't make me a football (soccer) player.
Nevertheless, as my latest obsession/hobby, Poker does occupy a significant amount of my time...so maybe I should!

I definitely don't introduce myself as a poker player. It would be very presumptuous of me. Although I have a good game, my achievements are amateurish. It would be a great pleasure to introduce myself as a poker player, but the achievements have to be great for that. I'm still an amateur for now!

I remember reading that Doyle Brunson was introduced to his Girl friends parents and when he was asked what he did for a living he told them he was a book maker, They thought he Printed books.
As a Joke I sometimes say I am a professional poker player now as I am retired and don't need to work.
My pension looks after me now, I know my poker winnings wouldn't go far.
