I almost titled this post, "Which Do You Like Better" but then I changed it. The question is inregards to cash games or tournaments. Which is harder for you? For me it is tournaments. I am very card dependent. It is hard for me to get a good read on opponents and narrow their range. This makes me very card dependent, and this is sort of ok in a cash game. I can sit around and wait for good cards, and then hope to get paid off when I get those good hands. In a tournament there is so little room to wait for good cards. The blinds rises up and before you know it, you have nitted yourself out of the game, because the blinds have eaten you alive. Tournements are harder for me because of this. How about you? Which is harder and why?

I think cash is way harder, to me it comes down to effective stack depth. Playing 300 bbs deep on cash is a completely different game than having 20bb stacks in a mtt.

I find tournaments extremely more challenging. When you're playing in a tournament you find your self in more situations were your are forced to go all in to keep up with the blinds. Unless you get into that comfortable range where you are in the top 20% then you can open up you're playing range and make easier calls. But in order to get to this position you have to get lucky from the get go which involves risking a large portion of your stack from the beginning. I've had most of my success in tournaments playing passive aggressive with small over bets. Good luck at the poker tables!

I would say tournaments are way more harder type of game for me. The main reason is length of the game and constantly playing versus new players. Since that is the case, you can't really build up an image of yourself for your oppononents and then use that image as an advantage in the game later. Also, in tournaments, you can't really get to know style of play of your opponents and therefore it's way harder to make good plays.

I totally love playing tournaments. It it hardy to play them but I think there is more action in this. I feel happier to reach a good place in a tournament or win it.

Online cash game is brutal.I could never get past .50/1.00. the 1/2 was soft sometimes depending on if you played it during fish donkey hours.

OP you should open your range in holdem especially in position. Its a hassle to make a pair in holdem and there is a lot of power in a pair statistically after the flop even pre.

As for me, playing for cash is much more difficult than in MTT tournaments.

for me it is more difficult cash tables since it is true that in the blind tournaments you consume and if you do not link good cards you stay out .. sometimes it is better to take advantage of the moments that you are in position as to try to steal and keep going in middle position to try that your battery is not so low and can bend when you get good hands but that does not guarantee the victory .. is at least an idea.

Cash games are too boring, it is always the same scheme, and if you are capable to do the long-run math with pot odds and everything, you could find a better paid job as a scientist with easier maths.
I love tournaments, because the thrill comes automatically whenever you are ITM and have still a nice stack in front of you.
From my point of view this is the moment, where REAL POKER starts.:ciao:

In tourneys you still want to wait for cards, perhaps you should widen your range some.

Remember why you chose tourneys over ring. I'd guess like most of us you see tourneys as a 'limited liability'. I know that is why I first chose tourney's.

The big downside about tourney's, for me, is the time commitment. Not even SnG's these days will finish in less than an hour. To win a tourney will take at least 2, and could be 10 hours. I've done that long grind and it took a toll.

For those who find ring games boring, I suggest you investigate the speed games. I play BOOST at BOL, and SB, same as ZOOM, or RUSH, and whatever the ignition version is called. You won't be bored.

I have to stay away from cash games at all cost.
It is too much hard for me and my bankroll don't like it at all.
Tournament can be long but at least I cannot lost more money than what I pay to register.
I don't like rebuy/add-on for that reason.

Tournaments are much easier to me, partly due to my play style, and honestly I can think more clearly instead of thinking of the money involved.

Cash or MTT

Hi There,

to be honest, its a different dynamic but one that can deliver instant gratification (cash) or MTT which develops a whole range of skills.
I see more players going from cash game success to MTT success than the other but that said these days top players are strong in all areas.
With knockout MTT tournaments becoming ever more popular now..this incorporates some of that quick win feeling but returning back to cash games i feel i have had to study harder at this, so much variance, so many more players with so much more action.

Regards

pirateglenn:)

Wow. Im somewhat surprised at the responses to this thread. Possibly because i started playing tournaments then migrated to cash. They are so different i dont really think to compare the two. The number one thing i want to know ,win or lose, cash or tournament, is did i get my money in good. The variance in cash is high and the ability to reload between hands makes them independent in this aspect. Where tournaments the hands tend to be connected. This is espcially true in latter stages or when youre down to say 15-20 BB. These situations77 require on the fly gear changes and strategic decisions you will.need to apply to the hands yet to.come. Be aware of. And i may be wrong about this so my input is encouraged. But If youre running in the lower range of.BB or ,short stacked in the late stages you need to worry less about what your opposition is holding and concentrate more on33 How they are playing and look for s8pots to exploit the overly aggressive trying to steal.

Hi.
Obviously, the game on cash is much more complicated. From a psychological point of view, it is harder for me to play cash. I prefer tournaments.
Good luck.

I like both for different reasons. I like tournaments for the challenge and the payouts when I have a long period of time to dedicate to playing. I like cash games for a quick poker game and some immediate payout of which I can cash out anytime.

It's more difficult for me to play in tournaments, it's easier for me to play in the cash game, you can sit and wait for the card for a long time and in tournaments the rate rises after a while and you need to make decisions with the worst card, tournaments need a lot of free time to play and if the card plays it's good that you can win something, and in the cash game you can win in a short time!

I m not very good in cash games because I don't like it and I haven't played too much and I think it's more difficult than tournaments.I like more tournaments because if you reach the top positions you will be paid very well.
