Difference besides reading people was keeping up with the pot size and handling the chips. It is much preferred than playing online.

My opinion

Isn't it nice to meet the people you play everyday face to face. Lining up a tournament with the people you play would be something to think about.

Playing online and a live game is like heaven and earth! Online you play with faceless nicknames of players, almost with a computer program. A live game is people who are at the same table with you, you see their faces, their emotions, their facial expressions and gestures. The difference, in my opinion, is colossal!

If you are being sponsored, you should probably give it a try. Although the difference is really huge, but this experience should be interesting for you. In any case, good luck.

it's different, but the moments are unique, the fun just increases, it's both fun, it's worth having fun and adding knowledge about the game and of course more experience!

First time when i played live in casino i also was a bit nervous. So many things are done automatically in online poker like stacks counting, chip chop, dealing and so on that live poker looks much more difficult. This is only at first glance though. In fact the dealer is doing much of the job so you only need to monitor blinds, count stacks and play the game. You should also learn to control your emotions and monitor the other players. It is best if you first play few live home games with your friends as preparation for the first casino game. Telling all of this live game for me is just another level (in positive way) of playing poker compared to online. The only reason for me to play primarily online is the much higher price of live games.

I had the opportunity to play poker live ..but they were close people .. of course it was more difficult to play live in the tournament it seems to me .. although there are more emotions and communication with people ... but the fear of losing ... will really poison anyone .. in online poker you can think more and make decisions ... in a live tournament you need more experience and practice ... again it all depends on patience and luck ... but no one likes to lose .....:):)

I think the difference between a live game and an online game is just huge. I have also never played a live games, but I'd really like to try it. Unfortunately, there are actually no places in my city where I could play live poker.

hi, I think that the difference in these games is that the field of players in live poker is weaker and in online poker is stronger given the poker statistics that online players use.

Huge difference! I like both at different times, for different reasons.

The plus side of online play is there's nothing you really have to do other than make your decisions. The blinds, dealing, even your chip stack is managed for you. You can sit on the couch in your underpants and no one would be the wiser haha.

Downside though is that all of your decisions have to be made, solely on your cards, the cards on the table, and how the other players have been playing. You can't pick up any personal tells from people other than maybe their betting patterns.

Live games you manage your own blinds and chip stack, you may or may not deal depending on the game. It's sometimes fun to actually interact with the other players outside of a typed chat bar. You get the chance to pick up on any tells whether it be tics, voice variations, certain movements, nervousness, faked confidence, whatever. I find it's more fun basing decisions on something the other players have said, or done, instead of just the cards and odds.

I've never really played extremely high stakes or anything. I figure if I don't have the money I can afford to lose I shouldn't be gambling with it, but I have played a few casino tournaments with buy-ins under $500, as well as their low stakes table games and done pretty well for myself.

I think if you get the chance, you should give it a try. It's definitely something to experience.

If it's something your nervous about, why not just get a group of friends together for an evening? It doesn't have to be an expensive, or overly competitive thing. I play monthly with a small group of 6-7 friends who just enjoy playing as a hobby. We only play $5 tournament style games where 2nd place gets their buy-in back and 1st place takes the rest. It keeps it friendly, no one can lose more than say $20-$30 (depending on how many games you play), but there's still the opportunity to make a bit of money. Just an idea... you'd get to see what live poker is like, learn to handle the chips, all the while just having fun with some friends.

You'll have to let us know what you think of the online vs live games, if/when you do try playing live.

Big difference online vs live. I personally feel more secure playing live. Just more general trust with a casino dealer and being able to look someone in the eyes. Not saying online sites in the U.S are a scam but I don't like to put or leave more than 50 bucks on any of them. But I'll def throw down 500 to 1500 on a tournament or 2-5 game at foxwoods.

the difference that the attitude and take care of your facial features since when grabbing an excellent hand playing online opponents can not persuade your hand otherwise when playing live, the strategy also changes no longer be governed by the table's position but this governed by the behavior of your opponents

There are many differences between online poker and live poker. The obvious is potential tells that live poker offers that online doesn't have. However, I think there is also a lot to be said for the atmosphere. Live poker can be potentially full of flashing lights and sounds, slow at the table, tension in the air and so on. Online poker tends to be faster and is all from the comfort of your home. The two possible atmospheres are greatly different in its own right.

Playing online, of course, is easier. But playing live poker gives you unique emotions!! Just online you can play at least every day, opened the computer and play, and a live tournament (table) still need to search

I think online poker is much softer. Online player are anonymous and there are more often donk bets and bluffs. I prefer live poker because a lot of tells are only possible to read in live poker. Also there are fewer fun player and gambler in casinos and tournaments with reasonable buy ins.

I want to be more confident at a live game so I started looking for small local more fun groups. I find I'm not ready for a big real live game yet. I'm more nervous live and am hoping to shake it.

It would be easier to list their common qualities. They both use cards and winning hands are the same. Patience is a virtue and position is important. oh yea both are enjoyable but not equally. I'm sure there are more similarities but all i got for now.

I think that at some stage of your development you will realize that there is not much difference. But there is an addition in the form of psychology.

I like both versions of poker. Online you have much more flexibility and aren't as easy to read IMO. I prefer live because you are next to people and a real dealer. The cards online are electronically sorted by a program, versus at a casino, the human element is involved to some extent. If you go to Vegas during the wsop you might run into Maria Ho, who is my favorite player. Even Phil Helmuth aka the Poker Brat would be someone I'd like to meet. Wouldn't want be beat him on the table with a suckout, cause I'd never hear the end of it.

I think the biggest difference (besides the practical mechanics of the game, such as being able to count stacks in real life) is going to be people’s perceptions based on appearances. It’s basically like an avatar on steroids in that people will tend to make a lot more assumptions about you based on how you look, largely just based on stereotypes.

Keep in mind that judging people based on these stereotypes can easily result in a lot of false info—generally I find it best to try to actually visualize the kind of HUD I have while playing online when I’m playing live. That helps me to stay more objective since I believe the bets people make (or don’t make) give me more info than superficial details.

As for me, it’s easier to play and read opponents live than online poker ...
