Wow Lemly. that is some terrible plays you're witnessing there.
Pretty soon you should be raking in the dough if they keep playing like that :)

Did you set out to play 5K hands today or did you just refuse to quit until you got back to even (or close)?

Naw, I set out to play lots of hands. I have maybe one or two days in the week when I can play all day without being interrupted, today being one. Usually I can make 5k hands before I start feeling all carpal tunnel syndromy and tired.

Breaking even did turn out to be one of my (nonsense) goals during the session though.

Withdrew all my money from full tilt to keep me from playing stupid games. Plus I was not a fan of the interface.

This is like bizarro poker. All the fish are showing up with the nuts, and all the nits are making weird fishy plays...

That roughly sums up my past three days, where I'm the one making the fishy plays. I lose to runner-runner quads versus horrible players, and seemingly good regs check/call down 3 barrels with A8o on a K-8-3-Q-Q board.

Then I tilt and call a 3bet on the button with a hand like 75s or QTo versus, admittedly, a 20%+ 3-bettor (yeah, we get those at Party - it's crazy) (and no, that's not a wide enough 3-bet to call with those hands) and spike two pair on the flop and stack him when he actually had KK or JJ. It's weird because it's weird that a 20%+ 3-bettor actually shows up with KK, and it's weird that the two times I made loose 3-betting calls I flopped two pair both times and stacked the 3-bettor off. Second weirdness in this is that the Q-T hand I flop two pair and stack the guy with JJ on the river, Q-2-T-9-5 board. I have no idea why he called a pot sized shove on the river, but there you have it.

Long story short: I've been playing poorly in some spots and it's paid off, I've played excellently in others and have gotten shafted by the deck, and all in all I'm running roughly around expectation. God bless this game.

I'm currently grinding 2nl with a $50 BR. I buy-in for 100 BBs which gives me 25 buy-ins total, which is more than enough for this limit. Well, I recently decided to sit at some 5nl tables a few times and I noticed that the play is exactly the same as 2nl with very exploitable players.

I was barely making a profit at $2NL. I took $20 and set it aside for $10NL, and never went back. I found it *easier* than $2NL.
Like other people have said, I fully endorse the idea of you moving up to $5NL as long as you're willing to move back down should things to awry.
I can look at my PT graph and point to exactly where I made the switch from $2NL to $10NL. It's pretty dramatic.

ALSO, I can point to my PT graph and show you the exact point where I switched from playing with short stacks to playing with full stacks. Again, it was a big improvement in my return.

The negative feelings I have towards your pre-flop limp are surpassed only by the negative feelings I have about lam_mtl's pre-flop limp.

I agree with SP, I was losing on 2nl and a bit at 5nl and winning at 10nl.

And how about my first hand yesterday where I got stacked vs a limped AA ? :(

Not a good call preflop here, imo, the raiser has only 20BBs. You don't have remotely enough odds to set mine. You got very lucky a donkey behind you also called and stacked off with TP.

AH i know, I could have never put him on the absolute nuts there, I never expect A/K to limp preflop, its just so strange. I can recognize big pairs limping but I beat those after the flop. I was putting him on 10/10-Q/Q, oh well

Yeah I failed to notice he was shortstack when I limped.

One sweat session with Alan Jackson (discount price): $200.
Losing a little over 5 buy-ins while waiting for the session to start: $1,032
Winning it all back and then some in a session that cost me $200: Priceless.
