I'm curious to what everybody's answer is and what poll results are when it comes to building a bankroll vs maintaining. I been practicing poker with fake money apps and I've built millions and now I'm trying to do this in the real life realm of things. If I had to pick it would definitely be building a bankroll from scratch. I think building a roll from scratch is much harder because you are much closer to running out of money compared to having so much room for error with lots of money. Also on free fake money apps everyday at midnight you're rewarded money to keep playing over and over whereas in real life you need to either deposit money from your paycheck, credit card, or past time freerolls and really really put in work of your own money to grow a bankroll.

However you can make an argument that when you build your bankroll to mid to high roller stakes into the 6 figures and beyond, trouble can come your way such as temptations, personal addictions, reckless behavior. What do y'all think?

When I started playing poker online, I spent a lot of time playing with fictitious money, and I discovered that it was time wasted, because when I started playing for real money, the gameplay was totally different. I started playing some freerolls on pokerstar, and I won some bucks, with that money I started playing $0.25 sit-go, 45 players, and that's what I play to this day. I didn't build a big bankroll, but as I play just for fun, it's pretty good.:)

Looking at this mathematically, maintaining a bank roll is much harder. Considering that you're in this to make money then going from 0 to any bankroll size is free. Therefore it will never cost you to keep learning and trying. If you make $1 in a free roll and then spend the next month very carefully building that up to $10 then you've just made 1000% But if you deposit $100 or $1,000 and lose it you're down 100%. You should be judging your performance by percentages not by dollar value.

Probably maintaining, since you probably get the urge to playing a little bigger buy-in when you win something but not enough to up your stakes yet, building your bankroll is easier since you start with a a bankroll already that fits your buy-ins, that's in the beginning, but when you lose a few in a row, you could ge tthe urge to play something bigger if your tilted etc, that's why i think maintaining is probably harder than building it

I guess maintaining is harder, cause one is impatient and skips steps, goes higher too fast, will lose it all

I'm not sure which is harder for most but for me..... building on is not impossible or super hard. Maintaining one can be as im always looking to cash out when I get up x3 x4 what I deposited. This is frustrating sometimes because I then load up more money lose load up more lose. This doesn't always happen but it happens enough. I also fins myself as the bankroll gets larger playing casino games and sports betting

I think that the two things are hard but I think maintaing the bankroll is harder. For build your bankroll you can play a lot of freerolls but maintaing is hard if you are not good player 😃

Building needs time, maintining needs discipline. It seems maintining is harder. I have a few friends who failed exactly at that after a few big scores.

To mantaining is more difficult because freerolls or low cost tourneys are easy to win. But sometimes is not possible to keep winning so money leaves.

Maintaining the roll is hard in a proper downswing which was around at 5k once for me on pokerstars went down to under 500$ in 3 months s time not doing weird or crazy just not connecting anything or getting trough. Seeing the roll drop from 5000 to 500 was so discouraging i took a break for 5 years lol.
Definitely the hardest.

Making a bankroll from scratch is of course more difficult, since you will have little chance of getting them. Now there are not as many free tournaments as before, and having a ready bankroll, you can safely play low or medium ones, it will not be boring and there are chances to earn extra money.

you are making a mistake when playing with play money and even more so in an application, keep in mind that not always the players in that place are risking a lot, it helps to learn the basics of poker but in the poker world in which I have been playing for years and I could say that if I am a winning player but still they always come with variance which in the end becomes a game not only of cards, but also of emotions, concentration, that is, psychological for each player, keep in mind that not as long as you have a strong hand you have already won the hand, you always have to keep in mind many factors that affect and make this game one of the most complete
