I broke the bankroll rule, leveled up too soon and paid the price.
You're not the first, and won't be the last- don't worry too much!
As you see from the excellent selection of responses which are already here, it's something most keen poker players will experience and learn from at some stage.
The number of players who start, build their bankroll, continue to grow it, right the way to the top, without out
ever felting themselves once- are very few in number.
The only real issue here is if you were also playing beyond your means, that would be a big problem indeed with serious consequences which would require addressing immediately.
As long as that isn't the case, it's purely a matter of learning from the experience, picking up the pieces and starting over.
Annoyingly, sometimes it takes learning this lesson in different ways- like if we end up playing an unfamiliar format for example.
Different formats require different bankroll management rules.
After already learning this lesson and having a strict BRM mindset myself, I still managed to find a loophole in my own brain and almost felted myself trying to satellite into a major tournament.
The satellites were all different varieties of structures & buy-in levels so because only the
occasional one was ten times larger than my usual maximum stake, I wasn't able to catch myself before it was too late.
I spent almost the entire direct BI amount on satellites, decimated my BR and didn't even gain entry to the $12.5mil gtd tournament.
I'd rate the experience 0.5/10 and would not recommend!
BRM is quite possibly the single most important factor in a truly successful poker journey.
Get that organised and you're giving yourself a real fighting chance... :flute:
