I did it once early in my poker life. I was in germany at a monte carlo night. I was up close to $1000 everything was going right so i bought a drink or 2 or 3 or .... I left the night up about $300 but that time taught me and I never drink at a table or while playing online now.
I can discuss politics, religion and play poker without getting emotional.
I do not drink alcohol at all, never. In my opinion, alcohol during the game of poker is superfluous. Drunk players take absolutely foolish decisions and ultimately, these foolish decisions make them miserable.
I got the impression that you have serious problems with alcohol.
I only have the opportunity to play online poker, and sometimes I buy beer with chips, spend time in the game and rest, but when I play good tournaments or cash games at normal rates, I don’t accept alcohol and I focus on the game and try to make fewer mistakes
I'd say booze is a leak but there is something to be said for being a "fun" player at a casino or home game and drinking along with the fish. It may bring your EV down but as long as your opponents' EVs drop more your winrate will go up.
As they say - been there, done that. It happens to drink several drinks and decide that you want to play poker. And if it is freeroll for example it is not problem at all. I have done that several times without any problem. I know my friends though who start playing drunk and loose all their bankroll. For me personally if you play serious game maximum is one beer which helps me to relax and play better. Anything more than that is ok only for freerolls for fun and only if you do not tilt in such situations.
Having said that i have even won some money playing drunk but sometimes variance is on your side no matter how drunk you are and how bad you play.
Noo no problem with alcohol at all..Everytime I ever played live cash I've drank it just makes me more relaxed and focused..I've always won when I was drinking..my only issue is knowing when to get off the table and go have a burger or something lol
I don't drink while playing poker but it's mostly because I enjoy watching the game unfold and I don't need alcohol to enhance the experience. The drunk/tipsy players I occasionally see at the tables end up loosing their stacks.
I'm often having a beer when I play, because I'm usually playing after work.. which is beer time :P I'd never play with serious $ while drinking though, or have more than a couple at any level. Been there, done that.. lost.
It's no secret that alcohol has a fantastic opportunity to give you a sense of invincibility and self-confidence, and these things are better left out of the poker table.
Every time you sit down at a table drunk, you're definitely going to show something supernatural by playing just your best poker, making incredible reeds and of course winning big banks. But after a few hands, your game starts to get worse, you start to spend stupid draws, there is a desire to win banks, not real money. Most players who have admitted their own mistakes can tell You with confidence: "Never play poker drunk!". Maybe it will seem a difficult task for you, but despite this, alcohol and poker is a very bad combination, no matter how much you are confident in your abilities and level of play.
I have a beer generally on the hour or a couple before the start and a one on the break. It calms me down otherwise when I get good cards my heart beats out of my chest and you can see the vein in my neck pumping with Nervousness. No joke.
I do not drink liquor when playing. Just a lite beer or 6 . Depending on how many hours I'm playing . I am also in constant chronic pain so it helps me to not get to hurting so badly sitting in the chair.
drinking in poker gives hope to weak hands. I have passed this many times; I do not advise using it; it will not lead to anything good. you can win once or twice for luck, but mostly you lose on hands that have do not reach ...
