Bankroll question

I am a microstakes player. I started playing on 2 online sites and built up a small bank roll on each. On one site I have just over $100 and in the other I have just over $150.

Does it make sense to put all of the money in one room in order to play higher buy in games? I play different games on both. On the site where I have $100, I play mostly jackpot Spin and Gos and on the other I play mostly turbo MTTs. If I moved my money over to the one where I play MTTs, I would start playing more Spin and Gos there where the lowest buy-in is higher than on the other site.

What do you recommend? Any advice is appreciated!

Thanks for responding. I can withdraw to crypto for no fee. Another option is to move my profits from the smaller site to the larger one and then I can continue playing the same way I am now there but move up on the larger site.

Strictly speaking a bankroll is the entire amount of money, you have set aside for poker, and not the amount sitting in the cashier on a particular site. If a live poker player wants to play a tournament in his local casino, he typically also wont bring his entire bankroll. He will only bring the money, he needs to buy in and perhaps reenter, if that is an option.

So the way I would look at this is, that you have a 250$ bankroll, which should be enough to play up to 2,2$ MTTs and 5$ SnGs or something in that ballpark. In theory you could then "go broke" on one site, but in that case just play on the other or transfer funds. Its good to learn and follow bankroll management but being overly conservative with a small bankroll like 250$ can also hold you back for no good reason

Thanks fun. I don't think I am being overly conservative but I also have not been viewing the entire bankroll as one and that really makes sense to me so thank you for that. My plan is kind of like you said which is the $2 MTTs (and the jackpot S&Gs which I have really been working on). I'll start taking a look at the $5 SnGs too.

I play micro stakes and I have about 7 different sites with a bankroll on them. It was suggested to me to have at least 20 buy ins for cash games and at least 100 buy ins for tournaments. However, I like having the option to play on different sites because you want to find the most profitable table. The more options you have, the better your chances are of finding that table. The old saying "scared money don't make no money," is so true if you do not have a sufficient bankroll and you are worried about losing your buy in. For example I was playing in a .25/.50 game tonight and was against an opponent betting very aggressively with draws all over the board as well as over cards and I was willing to lose my buy-in so I called their shove on the river and ended up calling a bluff. With a non-sufficient bankroll I would've folded that hand.

No make no sense to combine. There is so many ways of doing bankrolls, what i do is i combine all sites cash and bitcoin money and play out from that. So sometimes i will have all the money on a site on a table and that's fine i can always move some if it goes bad. Withdrawn money to my bank account is out, and no longer belongs to poker and can never come back. You will see many different numbers about what your suppose to have on your bankroll for a stake. Like 20xbuyin for cash and 50x for tourneys, its a good thump rule as minimum for me, but it really also comes down to your guts, if you don't feel comfortable loosing a buyin then dont play that table, even if your bankroll is huge. It has to give a tickle when allin, but if you go do dishes while allin move to higher table. well thats just me ;-)

It seems to me that the advice given by fundiver199 is the best.I myself play microlemites and freerolls in 5 rooms and on average they cost from $ 50-200, but I do not combine a bankroll into one and do not play abi 5-10 , because I still have a low skill and there is a risk of losing all my funds.Plus, you like to play in casinos-so it's better to separate them from the poker bankroll.

This is a very good point. The concept of a bankroll assumes, we are a winning player, and if we dont have a reason to assume that, then using "bankroll management" can only make us lose our money more slowly. Say as an extreme example, that someone, who have only played freerolls and micro stakes games, win 300.000$ in the lottery, and he decide to invest 200.000$ in paying out his mortgages, while the last 100.000$ goes into poker.

If this player now jump right into 1.000$ MTTs or even 500$ MTTs, then he is almost certainly going to be a losing player, so having a "bankroll" for these games will only make him lose his money more slowly. If he moves down, as the "bankroll" shrinks, he will not lose it all, but he will likely still end up losing a huge chunk of it, until he get down to a level, he is actually beating.

On the other site of the spectrum someone like OP, who have a 250$ bankroll, should not be to conservative about it. For a lot of people it is after all an option to pop 50$ or 100$ more into the account from paychecks, so there is no reason to get overly attached to this rather random and in the larger scheme of things meaningless amount of money sitting in the cashiers on two poker sites.

2,2$ MTTs are still very soft, so if OP was to make a demand, that he must be fully bankrolled for his games on each sites, he would probably be holding himself back. As this is also not good, because if we are serious about online poker, we dont want to get stuck in the low end of the micros for extended periods of time by for instance only playing 1,1$ MTTs, when it would be perfectly fine for us to also play 2,2$ MTTs. And even that is frankly very conservative. If we take a "shot" at a 4,4$ MTT and fail to cash, thats still only 2% of our bankroll gone, and we can still continue to play the same games, as we did before the "shot".

Always diversify. 2 sites are fine as long as you are able to withdraw whenever you want.

Personally I would keep the moneys as is. Moving the funds to one sit will allow you to play a higher buy in but not that much of a higher buy in. By staying with the 2 sites you will also be able to play a game on one or the other when there is nothing going on at one of them. There nothing worse than going onto the site and finding there is no game running you can play. This is why a play a few sites.

Just leave it alone and play higher stakes with what you got. If you lose you can always transfer between sites.

If you like the sites you're winning at then I would stay there and just "keep on keepin' on". I've only moved up in stakes once and then after half a year the site decided to not pay anyone anymore. I chalk it up to my little black cloud that hangs around me. When I move up in stakes, now, I go play in a brick & mortar club. If you have faith in online poker then by all means go play a $10 sng and see how it goes. If all goes well and you win/cash then parlay that and go from there. It's all about how comfortable you are in the game/table you've chosen to play in/at. As far as having $ on different sites I prefer to have my bankroll spread out, a little. Nothing wrong w/that. If you prefer one site over the other then consolidate. GL man.

The truth is that I really needed to read this thread, great advice, thank you all, I've been playing this game for a long time and I love it, but due to personal problems and being very conservative, I haven't. I have been able to get ahead, lately I have decided to take risks and although I am losing a little money, and I achieved interesting things, I won 2 satellites and I got that expensive ticket for less money, the truth is that it was very satisfying. I still have personal problems, but I decided to have aggressive management of my bankroll and I feel very motivated, this game is my therapy.

I have always strictly adhered to bankroll management. My strategy in this context is quite simple but effective. In short, I never spend more than 5% of my bankroll per day. Thanks to this, I always enjoy the game, control my emotions, and have good results.

I would continue what ever it is your doing. Until your 100% ready to move up the next level. putting all your funds together to jump up two or three levels is a bad idea. You want to splurge in a high level make it a bonus for ding so well.
