table manners are as important at the card table as the are at the dinner table...i pride myself on great ettiquete.....i have suffered brutal beats just to turn around and say GG.. Gluck.....on occasion i ask players "what would make you call my raise with that"...just to have them tell me im a sore loser and i suck ...and i never even made a single statemtn to berate anyone....i do have to say i like mike the mouth.....sometimes his antics are alittle extreme ...like the raymer mouth remarks about little balls and such ....but these things work on and for some players.....with millions on the line its hard tellin what some players will say
Good post.

The most important rule of winning poker....DON'T SCARE AWAY THE FISH! I try to play by the rule of compliment bad plays or say nothing at all. I want fish thinking they should call a pot sized bet on a flush draw...EVERY TIME. I want them thinking that their J9 will hit two pair ALMOST ALWAY. Hey, if we are not experiencing bad beats, we are at the wrong table!

I agree - don't scare away the fish. Any time one has drawn out with hands they should never have seen the flop with, then called pot size raises to the river and draw a runner runner flush or straight I simply say 'good call', 'wow, nice play.' I try to give them confidence to keep them playing the same way so that next time they don't hit the river card I can pad my stack.

That was the first time I had ever seen Matusow. "What a JERK!" I thought to myself. I absolutely loved it when a short time later, he wanted to shake Raymer's hand after being busted by him. Raymer said not a word, but simply put his hands up, leaving Mike hanging in the breeze. Raymer has a lot of class, and I admire that.

its far worse online I think. I mean Ive seen some of the crap they say to get you off your game and its kind of diturbing. Let me say one thing though, If some of these people actually talked like this in a live casino game, they would have to deal with somethimg far worse that typing on a keyboard. If you know what I mean. hint hint

Full Tilt Poker

I normally play online at full tilt poker, and they are pretty good at monitoring the chatbox, but sometimes a player will get out of line and nothing is done about it. A little friendly banter and joking around is fine in my opinion but it's not necessary to cuss a player out. It just makes you look like an ass and more than likely you're then going to just get bullied and brutalized by everyone at the table. I personally find it best to just be stone cold quiet or just be friendly and chat with whomever is open and talkative at the table. You never know, you might just be able to extract the information you're looking for to make the right call.

Rude comments are usually made for 2 reasons. The first is when someone losses a hand and the comment is designed to divert the attention away from the fact they played it badly. The other reason is in my view tactical. There is so much money at stake at the top level that any edge at all is worth pursuing. Once the top players do something it just cascades down through the ranks. I try to remind myself that if someone is bad mouthing me it is usually because I am beating them.

I will not name people what I will say is that these type of actions at the poker table are just wrong. They are classless and disrespectful things you should avoid doing and I do not respect them at all.

I'm a huge fan of "Nice call, idiot." But that's only when I'm a huge favorite to win and get sucked out on. Ussually when I do the same thing I say "Oof." In the chatbox and welcome all insults.

As far as getting personal, that's just plain rude. I've been cussed out in my fair share of languages at cash games, but ussually if somebody is being a jerk I'll just block their chat. I find myself tempted to point out to them that my play was mathmatically correct - but I'm in the business of playing poker, not educating strangers on how to be better players - so I ussually keep my trap shut about that.

I usually just say "ow" when someone loses an all-in pre-flop with a big favorite or an all-in in general.
