I play 1-3 live NL HOLD EM

I am a Profiting Player at the local casinos.

Am I tipping enough?

Example, I usually net 200$ a day maybe more. (profit) I tip the dealers about 2-3$ a hand depending on the pot won. I also tip the ****tail waitress a dollar per soda. I am also tipping the guy who counts my chips at the end of the day. Normally 2-3$. I feel kind of weird tipping the guy at the end of the day....especially after he just counted out like 400$ in chips lol. Am what I doing is right? I feel like it is the right thing to do. They work hard to you know.

IMHO tipping too much. For a $300NLH game at a casino, I tip $1 for any pot over $30, $5 for any pot over $300. Waitress, $1 per drink. Cashier, $1 if I have a profit on the night. If the desk/floor has a tip box I will drop $5 if I have had a +1BI profit.

I tip $1 for any pot won that goes to a flop, regardless of its size. I used to tip more for huge pots but recently stopped because I'm tipping $1 for all the $10 pots I win plus I tip for any promo money won. $1 for any drink as well.

Only played live about 5 times. First time I didnt even know people tipped dealers.

Since then I would tip £1 for any pot over £50 and £2 for anything over £200

Might leave a couple of pounds to the dealer at the end if I had a winning session.

as a pro dealer I say you are doing fine and thanks! As far as the cage folks go, maybe you want to ask if they actually get to keep the tips...some casinos take the cage tips and give to the dealers because the cage folk get paid a good hourly....they do this at wsop so most cage people will reject the tip and tell you they dont get to keep it, but if you say give it to the dealers then they will accept it for them.

We in Aus only tip if we think the service was exceptional, We believe that employers should be paying decent wages that would not require tipping by people who are paying enough on the bill already. Why should the patrons have to make up part of the wages of the employees.

While I agree with your thought process and wish tipping would be eliminated completely - I still tip generously here because the fact remains that those who depend on tips do not make fair wages without them.

I only tip the dealer one time no matter if i have a winning or loosing night. On a loosing night i will throw them 3 or 4 bucks and on a winning night i will throw them 6 or 7% of winnings.

My casino doesn't really have a cage. But the guys are always cool to me. They give me my seat ask me if i need anything. Plus, i see people tip them after they count out there cash on the table.

So when I cash out after a hard days work. I just think it's only right that I tip him/her too maybe a buck or two. I think it is kind of unfair to tip the dealer, the waitress and then leave one guy without a tip ??? I don't know that is just the way I look at it. Plus they see how much money I'm making at there casino and they are like HOLY SHIT LOL. So i feel like....maybe I'll give this guy a tip. I have always learned in life, the more you give, the more you receive. I just think that is the way it goes at least i hope haha. Thanks guys.

If I was in the US I would do the right thing, it's not fair on the patrons or the staff to be put in that position, while the corporations make all the profit.

Edit
I was mainly talking about tipping in general, as for the dealer, if I won I would give the dealer a tip when I get up to leave the table.

+1 to this. The dealers at Crown Casino (Melbourne, Australia) make around $22/hour in US money. That's how much dealers should be making. It's really sad to hear about dealers in the USA making less than half of that and relying upon sympathetic customers to subsidise their wages.

I agree with this. If I went to Vegas on holiday, I'd probably tip the staff too, just because I don't want to see them suffer. But I'd really resent the management for guilt-tripping me into doing so.

I tip the dealer $2 at a $1/$2 game if I win a good sized pot, $6 if I win a monster pot (essentially only double ups)

While I agree that no job should REQUIRE a tip, there are card rooms out there that would not even be open if they had to pay the dealers $20 an hour, just as many many restaurants would not be open if the wait staff had to be paid minimum wage or more.

With that there is the fact that the good dealers will go where the money is, just like workers at any job. If you dont tip your regular dealers then they will leave and work somewhere else, then you are left with crappy dealers and I bet players wouldnt like that at all.

As for the casinos, well they are money hungry, and if the room doesnt make a profit standing alone they will close it and the poker will be gone.

The only alternative to tipping is higher rakes at most places, and then the players will leave and go somewhere else, then the room closes, and no one wants that.

I like the idea of tipping out at the end of a session if you have had a winning night, however, some of the dealers that dealt to you may be gone for the night already by the time you are done, then they are left out. We have players that will return the next day to hit up the dealers they missed, if you would do this then excellent, if not then you miss some people and the problems above all come into play.

As far as casinos in other countries, well they have other things at play to be able to pay their dealers more, but here in the good old USA, no side wants to give - players dont want higher rakes, more costly food and drinks, and the casino execs dont want to give up their fat pay checks, so tipping is the only way to keep the good dealers around.

If your dealer sucks, then well do the same as you would if any service job worker sucked, but you should keep consistent. i know people that will still tip a waitress if she sucked just not as much, treat your dealers the same if you do this.

This thread reminds me of the scene of the tipping debate at the restaurant in the movie Reservoir Dogs. Don't be a Mr Pink. ;)

You're right, I didn't take that into account, in this situation if I was up at the time the dealers change I probably tip then also, but not if i'm only say $5-$10 up, it would have to be a considerable amount that I am up before I will tip.

But if in the US I would go along with the status quo.

The only thing I think is involved here in Australia is that we have minimum wage laws and independent commissions that investigate under payments to employees when reported, along with strong unfair dismissal laws.

Sounds like you got it worked out real well, and i think in general your rule of doing what is right and paying it forward will earn you alot of good karma in the end. Whether or not that good karma helps out your bankroll or makes you a winning players is another topic entirely, but i will say that i definitely enjoy feeling like i am doing what is right and walking around with my head held high over a few trivial dollars here and there. I would rather be broke and happy than, have a few more dollars and feel like a real cheap skate. Of course, this is my personal philosophy and follow that path that leads you to where you want to be.:)

That being said, i appreciate a good dealer and all good dealers always get tipped well. If you are not such a good dealer, then you still get tips but just not as much.;)

Giving tip means only means that you appreciate that person work. I don't give a tip when I am losing but if I win big yes I do give them the tip.
