what went wrong and what should be done?

I was in the BB with AK hearts
the middle player JJ increases 3BB I pay
flop turns 9J5 including 2 of hearts and player 2 increases the size
so I went all in and he paid the turn and river is 63 but did not hit flash
and lost

AK is great for much higher stack size than villain. otherwise, too much can go wrong for push (IMO).

I should have raised on the preflop instead of just paying

I wish I could see the stack sizes to really look at what the circumstances were otherwise we are just looking at a poker calculator. I probably wouldn't mind a check/raise all in most situations on this board though.

Raise preflop and try to get it in pre, if he just calls you can probably shove this flop (if stack size is not bigger than 2x pot).

you all rightly made AK suited a great card and you had a chance to win, but you were not lucky in such a situation with Flash, I also sometimes take that risk and it happens that it plays well and sometimes I'll lose too!

I do like the idea of using ICM software (or similar here) to see what it says. It may be that what seems obvious is not so. IE, when you meet a similar situation with AQ, AJ it tells you to fold every time (exception may be suited). Through experience it is absolutely right, lol.
I still say to keep an eye on stack size.
