This past week while on vacation I was invited to join a cash game on a cruise ship.
I very infrequently play cash games, strictly tournaments.
The game was $1/$2 no limit Hold Em. The buy in was $20 minimum. When I sat down to play, most bought in for $200, I bought in for $100.
I played 3 different sessions about 4 hours each.

I really enjoyed the games, I ended up exactly even for the 3 days. I would like to start playing these cash games at my local casino, but, was hesitant after the way these games went.

Here's what I would like to know is typical. I saw so many huge pots. I saw many pots over $250, one of which I won, and one I lost. I saw numerous $400 pots an $800 pot and a $1200 pot. This just seemed like crazy poker.

Are pots of these sizes typical? As I said, I don't play cash games so I don't know.
Just seemed like these guys were tossing out money, crazy!

Follow beanfacekilla topic to know answer inside out.

I would guess though that vacation mood with alcohol makes is a bit more crazy than normal.

Huge pots at small stakes tables

When I've played live cash games I've seen pots like this quite often, but I believe that's because you end up with gamblers who want to get their chips in even with marginal holdings. I've seen people throw $100 at top pair without batting an eye.
Now, here's the key to this problem, though. When the casino / cash game only has $1/2 no limit you see this a whole lot more. In my hometown casino they only have $1/3 NL and people throw money around like crazy, but a lot of that is because they really want to be playing much higher stakes, they just don't have that as an option, so they throw lots of money into small stakes poker tables. When I went and played at Foxwoods where they had pretty much every type of table you could want, I found the pots remaining relatively small. Even big pots were only breaking the $100-$200 mark. So I believe it has a lot to do with people wishing they could play higher stakes when they can't.

Depends on the area, like Johnathon said foxwoods is usually pretty tight. But way northern California games are insane. I once seen a 2.5k hand that a guy won by calling a 4 way all-in pot with 4/7os. He said he figured all the high cards were used up,lol. If you enjoy crazy action, then play on St Patricks day, as a lot of big gamblers come to the tables.
