What's everyone's thoughts on tipping at the casino? Do you normally tip bigger when you win a large pot or the same amount no matter the amount won (if you tip at all?).

You can tip a buck or a little more if you win a good pot. But be careful you don't want to tip away the profit you make as the rake is already hard enough to beat.

I normally tip 1$ if I win a hand, but never two hands in a row if I win multiple, I'll wait a little while.

I usually give a good tip when I win a big pot

I usually give a good tip when I win a big pot. In general, it is desirable to give a tip as often as possible to maintain positive energy at the table, and that the attitude of the dealer to you was particularly good. I worked for 3 years as a dealer and I know how it is nice to get tips from players, the mood immediately rises and it becomes even more pleasant to work. Be generous and good luck will come to you)

I never expected a tip every single hand I dealt. If the hand is complicated with multiple side pots, and i managed to get everything right....come on man hehehehe a buck doesnt hurt.

I would get tipped 4/10 hands and that was good enough for me to make some pretty good money.

I guess you guys haven't been around the game long enough. I play 1-2 consistently. I am a weekly grinder and typically put in 25-30 hours per week for the past 5-6 months. Earnings range from about 800-1500 a month. A good month 3k profit. But the average is always about 1200-1500. If i tipped a buck or two, or 5 for 100$+ pot every month, that amounts to about 400-500 monthly....in tips....4500 cash a year simple math. Bottom line...i do not tip anymore. Plain and simple end of story. Ask yourself this question.

Do you want to be a profitable poker player every month? If you do you'll save yourself a couple of buy-ins a month.

Best of luck, Soto

I used to play 1/2 in a cardroom where the dealers were not paid! Tips only! It was here that I adopted my dealer tipping behaviour of $1 for any win. That means win $200 pot - $1 tip, win $3 blinds - $1 tip.

This may not be the most profitable strategy for me, but it seems like the right thing to do.

When you tip you are giving away profit money not revenue money....poker is a grind of a game where you are guaranteed to lose and to win...problem is you won't know when the losses will come. So you may tip profit but you don't realize you might actually be a losing player especially at live cash hold'em. In short I agree with Soto here.

This is my opinion and you can take it how you want it, but this is horrible. It is equivalent to going out to eat or to a bar and never tipping your waitresses and bartenders for the service they are providing. The fact you say "if you want to be a profitable player every month, don't tip" is an ignorant thing to say IMO

What's everyone's thoughts on tipping at the casino? Do you normally tip bigger when you win a large pot or the same amount no matter the amount won (if you tip at all?).

So, what most people don't pay attention too is that while yes dealers do make an hourly rate while dealing it is very small and just like any other area of the service industry the majority of there income is made through tips. Dealers try and get a good amount of hands per hour, to keep the game going smooth and comfortably for everyone. I tip for the same things most would tip their waitress or waiter for. Ex. are they doing their job properly, do they have a good attitude, are they keeping up with everything. On top of that if I do something to slow down their hands per hour or if I am involved in a pot that takes a long time I will tip extra because this is taking away from their hands an hour. I will tip $1 on all pots under $50 even if I just win the blinds. Depending on all the variables as stated above will determine what the tip is for pots over $50. Even after tipping I am a profitable player. Good luck and think about your fellow dealers, they are doing this job that is very stressful to try and make it a great experience for the players. Good luck at the tables.

This is my big problem playing low stakes live games, you are fighting up stay above water with the rake and the unspoken obligation to tip the dealer is just another pail poured directly on your head.

I tip a dollar per hand won but it has to be more than just the blinds. I once hit the high hand in the poker room jackpot for $500 and I tipped the dealer like 10 bucks when she dealt me the hand but she had to rotate to another table before the time expired for my hand to hold up. So she said to me "If your hand holds up I'll be over at table 46." Well it held up but I didn't go looking for her.

I'm only tipping when the pot is over 20$ If so, it's1$

These low stakes games are hard enough to beat with the 5% rake and 2$ jackpot drop that my local casinos have.

On occasion, in a very large pot, I'll throw the dealer 2$

I am friends with few dealers at my local casino. Both play a lot of live poker as well and I asked them there thoughts on tipping the dealer. They understand how hard it is to make money in the game. If they win over $10.00 they will then tip a $1.00 for a hand they win. At $100.00 they tip $2.00 and $150+ $3.00. This is what I follow as well.

While I can understand how hard it is to make money as a player at this level, my dealer friends pay is below min wage as they are paid like a waitress. The salary is really on the tips they receive. On a good night they may take home $200.00 but most nights they don't come home with that much.

Probably £1 for any pot over £70.

Dont see the big deal with tipping though.

Not as if they give me money back if I lose a big pot.

I generally tip $1 for average pots ($40+)

And if i take down a large pot of $250+ i tip about $5 usually.

Once this past March i took down a 3 way all in with top set for a total of $786 and i tipped $20 for that one. Was just glad to get it in like that while i had it :)

So really depends for me, most smaller pots i dont tip at all.

I once tipped 10 dollars when I won a 4 handed all in post-flop - two shorter stacks shoving first with a royal flush draw and turning the nuts, not a royal but the nut flush. Holding against a set of QQ, AK top top, and a straight draw in a game of 1/3$ NL. But other than that I usually tip a dollar if there is more money than the blinds in the pot.

I've played poker for a living the past 4 years now. I've maybe tipped somewhere around 12,000$ i would imagine in 4 years. Possibly more. Here's the simple facts: if your a low stakes cash player tipping is absolutely NEGATIVE EV. Plain and simple. If you play 7-8 hours of 1/2 or 1/3 remember your automatically paying 70-80$ in rake no ifs ands or buts about it. You add in another 20-25$ in tips more like 30-40$ from me (when i used to tip) that amounts to 100$+ every single day!!

The funny thing is, alot of you guys wonder why you can't beat low stakes poker. Hint, hint.. Here's some avg. Sessions. The reality of it is, I'm there to make money bottom line. If you can afford to tip or play the 2/5 game and up where rake isn't an issue then tip as you please. As for me, I'll be smart about it since i realize that every edge counts in low stakes hold em. Best of luck.

Play online, save your money:top::flute:

Also sometime this thing must change and demand better salaries for those who are working for tips. Tipping should be for those who are doing a job so good you feel the urge to give money, not feeling obligated to and not for those who just do their jobs.
