Hi everyone. At Bovada I have built up a pretty good BR, like doubling up my deposit, and I've been only playing 5nl. Should I move up to 10nl now? Also, at SB I have doubled up my deposit and a little more, and I been playing at 10nl there, so should I give 20nl or 25nl a try at this point? I really think I'm a good enough player to do this, but I want your opinion. GL all.

Think about moving up when you have 30 buy ins for the next level. When your ready take a 5 buy in shot at the next level when you lose the 5 buy ins move back down build up and repeat. What's your bb/100 winrate on bovada and SB?

Bb/100 is a ratio of how many big blinds you win per 100 hands generally you want this figure to be above 5bb/100 before you move up

Thanks again 5pAce_c0wb0y. I understand now. I haven't played any poker so far today. I had other things to do. Anyway, when I get done with all this, I'm going to give it a shot with 10nl at Bovada and 20nl or 25nl at SB. I'm just going to play real tight until I get used to the different types of betting going on. GL to you if you play anything today.

Feels like you are very new player. I would advise you to download pokertracker and track your winnings and winrate. Pokertracker has 30 day free trial. Don't move up yet, stay at nl5 and improve your game.

Hi liuouhgkres. Thanks for the reply. No I'm not new to the game. I been playing 22+ years. I guess you feel like that because of the questions I post. The truth is that I like to get advice where ever I can get it. It helps me remember what I have already learned through out the years. Other players advice helps me make up my mind to do something. I been playing 10nl for a long time, and off and on, I have played 20nl. or 25nl. I mostly go by the size of my BR. And just in the past week or two I have doubled up my BRs. So no matter what, today I will be playing 10nl at Bovada and 25nl at SB. GL to you

I went ahead and moved up to 10nl on Bovada, but just stayed at 10nl on SB, even though I have the BR to support 25nl. GL all

Hi again you all. Ok I tried 25nl on SB, but I really didn't have the BR to be there. However, I won some good money yesterday, and I'm going to try again today. On Bovada, I headed back to 5nl. GL you all

did you track your sessions? that can give you an ideea what to do next. esencially moving up to bigger stakes are more difficult than it look. its not about the skills and rather its a psycologic thing

Well it's kind of fell apart at Bovada, so instead of moving up there, I'm headed back to 5nl. Thanks for all the replies. GL

Thought I would add something here. It's been awhile since I first posted this tread, and I never did move up. However, today I thought "what the hell" I put money out there to play MTTs so why not give 25nl a try. I did that when I first started playing around noon. What I found, was that I had to tighten up my play, I found better players, and I found a lot more betting as in raising. Anyway, I picked up about $20, but that's not a lot, and I could lose that and more at those tables if I don't check myself. GL to you all

To move to the next limit, you need not only the appropriate bankroll, but also the knowledge to help you reach a higher limit! If you are sure that you will be competitive, then good luck!

hi there,
before this corana pandemic hit i was playing the cash games quite often and know very well about the ups and downs.
I would advise to stay at the limits where you are comfortable at untill you have a minimum of 50+ buyins of the next level.
I know, i know you are going to say: but what if i play supertight?
Well believe me when i tell you out of experience: the sharks there know exactly how to play against you when you are going to play tight and have a counter for that.
So be wise and don't blow you BR like i did many times before i understood these simple facts. I was moving up the 10nl+ at stars before pandemic struck and hit me hard here.
I am recovering right now and hopefully i will be going the 25nl+ games.
Oh and another thing, after losing my bankroll so many times i only went up when i reached a minimum of 100 buyins and not less, but as you think you can beat it so i advised you 50+ buyins, but don't forget the important things like taking lots of notes and if you lose 10-20 buyins drop right away back down in stakes.

Good luck and have a great day:)

Don't think of your bankroll as the money that you have on one site (unless you have your entire br on one site, that is).

Generally, you need about 30 buy ins at whatever level you are playing. It's OK to take limited shots before that, but you MUST have the discipline to move back down if things go badly.

You can try 10nl once. If you win, you should try the higher stakes, and if you lose, you just have to go back to the original stakes. Everything is an experience.

Thanks for the replies. I read them all. I guess it don't matter what level I play at. It's more about the way I play, and what I play with. I'm not feeling very good today you all, so going to leave it at that. GL

I hope that you will soon be better and I can only agree with the previous posts that you should follow your br what you play. But sometimes it's just a matter of feeling when you've already been to a higher level it's not that easy to go down again. But I think that you have already gained enough experience yourself to decide what to do for yourself. the only thing is that you often already know it, but then it is difficult to act accordingly. I wish you good luck and good hands

Hey.

Seems you are stressing too much about this topic. Yeah, there will be much tougher opponents and more difficult situations. Worst thing you will make is that you are going to change your game. The most important thing is to take the stress out of moving up stakes.

My personal advice is that, first of all, if you don't do this already, change settings to show chips as BB. This is for both avoiding confusion, and you are not that much emotionally attached playing with "money". For me, playing with BB's is mostly part of mental game strategy. It is less painful lose BB's than actual money.

Now, add only ONE NL10 table. The rest of the tables are NL5. Play week or two, and if it's going well, add another (that's why you must play with chips showing as BB, you don't even remember which tables are NL10 and which NL5. By that you make sure you are not going to change your game style too much). Do the same until all of your tables are NL10. Don't take huge leaps, poker is not going anywhere.

Thanks for the replies you all. I think yesterday was my answer to moving up. For one thing, SB don't have any cash games lower than 10nl. For another, I really played stupid yesterday at 25nl. Lost my buyin, but I also lost at 10nl. It just wasn't a good day for me to be playing anything. The worst thing about yesterday, was that I lost a lot at the crap table. The only good thing is, I'm still above my deposit amount. But it's going to take some time to get back up there. One thing for sure, I'm done with the craps. GL you all
