What makes you think? - If you ask the question in the first place what makes you think?
I bet you have no idea how to beat the game let alone play this game professionally for a living.

I played a 2-2-3 blind structure in California. The $2 on button went direct to house rake with or without auction and a cap of $5. With the blinds it is not a waiting game for good hands as it forces action. I only played in this blind structure about 10 times, but the game appeared beatable.

I wouldn't try to make a living of poker. maybe try to make a monthly profit ontop of wha you make but don't give up your job just yet.

Of course you can make a living playing poker, whether online or live.

BUT FIRST - The Big Question - How much have you studied the game? Do you have your undergrad degree, a post-grad degree, your doctorate in poker, or JUST A DREAM?

Most people play recreationally, so finding a table with those players should be profitable for someone with the right poker smarts.

If you are just dreaming about making final tables because you got lucky the first few times you played, then perhaps its time to sit down with your conscience (or your significant other) and decide if you have the determination and aptitude to LEARN the game and the bankroll to fund your studies and apprenticeship.

Good Luck with your decision.

i think you have to devote your life to poker to make a living, which means that is all you do 24/7. I don't think you can hold another job and expect to be a profitable poker player long term.

I make a living playing poker here in So Cal. I play the low stakes as you said. 1/3 and 2/3. I actually focus on just one game though my specialty is 1/3 blinds with a 80/120 min max buy in live game. Yes I play in the casino's every day. I really don't want to say "I play for a living" but it literally is my side hustle and practically sometimes all i do. You can make money at this game you just have to know how too. Here are my tips on how to make a living at the low stakes or a considerable amount maybe 3k a month on average.

1. Simply put, i do not tip poker dealers (If i tipped playing 40 hours per week i would be easily tipping about 200+ a week and around 800+ a month) You can imagine what my profits would be if it didn't include the 50-60$ in rake i pay per day.

2. You are in business for yourself plain and simple. Your goal when playing in the casino is to turn a profit at the table that should be it.

3. Don't play tired and try and stay away from the games with the regulars.

4. Remember if you tip plus pay rake you are literally spending about 2000+ a month to play cards if you are playing 40 hours per week.

5. Get used to folding and a lot. Stop thinking your top pair, top kicker is good in a multi-way pot it usually won't be. Don't chase stupid hands and don't get caught up in big hands where you are unsure what to do. Always make good decisions for your stack don't even pay attention to what the other guy has, just think about your chip count, (if i call this hand will i go on tilt and am i unsure if I'm even good here, best option is to fold)

Here are my stats for playing a 1/3 game with 80/120 buy ins over the past few months. You can get a good idea of what the expected income is.

August - +$3,334 / 17.22 hourly / 5.7 BB per hour / 30 sessions / 200 hours
September - +$-816 / -11.70 hourly / -3.9 BB per hour / 16 sessions / 69 hours
October - +$4,708 / 32.69 hourly / 10.9 BB per hour / 23 sessions / 144 hours
November - + 487 / 15.71 hourly / 5.2 BB per hour / 4 sessions / 31 hours
