Losing money with a royal flush

I have not been doing all that well lately in poker and the other day I managed to lose money in a cash no limit holdem ring game with a royal flush online! How could this even happen? Hint-- I did not do anything dumb but my opponent did. I also did not do a misclick.

you have not explained your situation well why you lost with a royal flush is impossible is the best hand in poker is that you clicked fold or you exceed the waiting time?

I did not time out but yes I never thought of that--that would be the most probably way for it to have happened. I will wait a bit longer and then if no one has figured it out I will provide another clue.

I am now going to provide a hint that should clear up the waters somewhat (or maybe muddy them even more?)

Hint I was not asleep but my $ balance would not have suffered as much if my opponent had been completely sure that I was not asleep.

I guess some of you have solved the puzzle by now but not all. Another clue would be that I think I would have actually loss less money if I had folded to my opponents big river bet!!!
