Is it just me or what.........

We're talking about poker strategies(tournaments). Here's what I've noticed regarding myself during ring game play or tournament play. Every time I get a suited AK or a suited AQ, I believe "Hey I'm going to win this one!". Would you believe I don't even end up with a pair on these and no flush?

Am I raising pre-flop? Sometimes yes and sometimes no. I quit raising pre-flop because they kept losing. Too, I know this may sound stupid, but I wonder. Some of these online poker software act as if it frowns on the big betters or pre-flop raisers - cause where I play the pre-flop raiser gets beat out a lot. Truly they have good starting hands and were probably justified in their decision to raise.

Anyway not to get off subject, has this AK, AQ syndrome happened to anyone else. I'd really like to get some varied opinion and sound advice on these starting cards. Remember they're usually suited. Thanks.

I can never seem to win those hands and when I do get them, it feels like "here we go again, an ace will pop and I'll have all my chips in with top pair and someone will make a straight with only one card or something stupid(to me at the time, but thats poker) and it frustrates me to no end! I start dreading getting those hands because if i am short stacked, it might be my last hand.....and I also question the software, I think that it is not as random as a physical deck; but that's just my opinion

That can happen with any hand. pokerstars is the most realistic game site with the least amount of that crap. It is crazy i know, but if u raise enough preflop, you will most likely win the blinds, or be able to bluff on the flop.

i believe i win more time than not just becasue nothing flops but i still bet than...if the other palyer or so hasnt casught anything. they will normally fold.

yeah thats why just raise a little preflop so ur not commited to the pot.

same thing happens to me...i hate to go all in on those hands unless someone does before me with lower chips hehe....

but on the pokerstars subject....i think that if you're constantly raising and calling and playing enough hands...their poker system of dealing cards gives you better odds of winning....just something i've noticed....it's true for me and bunch of my friends...happens to us all the time...we do lose sometimes on thinking like that...getting caught on a bluff or whatever but for the most part i think it has something to do with it....and it doesn't include pre flop all ins lol....

I feel you on this. AK suited is a great hand if you get to see all 5 cards.

early on my luck with KQ and AK suited are usually bad. I'll raise preflop and get called by garbage. Of course the flop is going to be complete trash and I have nothing to work with so I relentlessly have to fold. I just don't seem to understand what the problem is.

You must remember that AKs and AQs are not made hands. Your hands are almost always beat if you do not hit anything on the flop. While it may be correct in some cases to bet with just ace high on a low board on the flop, you must use your table position and opponent's style of play to determine how you play each hand.

i raise AK a lot, A Q also, i despise KQ and odnt like it at all the same goes with KJ AND K10

is this online? with AK, AQ, try and not make it so the full board shows. what i like to do is raise preflop (strong) to show the strength of my hand, and the bet big on flop no matter when comes out. ..except of course is if its something like JJJ or similar. betting on the flop will almost guarentee you taking it down if no one hit anything, because you are still showing a strong hand. unless they called you with KK AA or QQ you'll most likely get folds. especially the QQ if a scare card like K shows up. you can win a lot of pots with strong, aggressive play and board of 4/2/9 is just beautiful for you to take down.

KQ, KJ, QJ, etc are all decent hands to raise with, but i would be as aggresive as i would with say AK. if no scare cards show up, a bet after the flop will still be a good move and could win you the pot.
