Sometimes I can have a good read on my opponent but when I'd like to extract value from his second best (typically a river bet) he usually folds. The only way I know how I'll probably get called is betting at most 1/3 pot on river but then when I do get called I have to ponder whether I missed value on not betting more.
Imagine the following hand (played this earlier - dont remember it exactly - will take ages to find it lol).
Hero (Cut-off AQ) raises to 3BB.
Villain (Big-Blind) calls.
Flop comes Ah Jc 2s.
Hero bets 1/2 pot. Villain calls.
Turn comes 5d. Hero bets 2/3 pot. Villain calls.
Hero bets 2/3 pot, villain folds.
How am I meant to extract value from his Jx/pocket pairs on this river? Obviously I can extract value from his Ax hands but being a narrower part of his range I don't know if betting bigger is profitable.
Villain with KJ probably has the mentality of:
"OK I'm going to call this C-bet as the flop bet is usually a bluff."
"Hmmm might as well call this second-barrel could still be a bluff"
"Nah can't call this he probably has an ace."
