I'm not strongly advising using the straddle but I think it can be part of a good strategy when properly employed. It can induce action at times and affect table image. I understand many people would say it's an annoying sucker bet, but try to hate the game and the rules thereof on this one, and not the player.

Does anyone else use the straddle? I've heard many people say they hate it but I'd like to hear some member opinions on straddling and advice on strategy.

Button straddle only

If I have a chance to Mississippi straddle on the button I do. I regularly play in games with a button straddle and I can tell you it's nice to play bigger preflop pots with the button. However is it +EV ? That depends on how soft the table is!

At my local cardroom they allow a straddle on the button which is a beutifull thing. Cant remember the last time i didn't straddle on the button. Those are some fun games

My local Casino is a straddle any position other than the blinds, but button has "priority" I use this often especially if the game is nitty. Not only do I build the pot in position but it's easy to squeeze. I've played in Vegas at mandalay bay where it was 6-20 on the button in 1-3 game no-limit on buy in.

The straddle can be used by the aggressive loose players.

It helps them with their image, while getting the Blinds.

With a suitable hand, you can also call and raise much easier.

I would not advise a normal player to use the Straddle often, unless he's on a winning street and feels so.

I love to straddle 3 handed on ACR, making the button last to act every round.

my strategy is to play strong hands, I raise them with caution since I have not been favored in a long time I try to go hand in hand with patience and luck learning to love the variance:ciao:

I play a 1/2 game at a local bar, god damn do they love to straddle. Nearly every other hand. Just like you mentioned, it's always the loose aggressive players. Ive noticed most people use it to help weed out limpers and keep their image, but some of them will fold to any pre-flop raise on top of their straddle, so it can also be a bad tell for some of them.

Patience is key at all stakes and I feel like that is great advice. I'll still straddle at times and I believe it has it's place, especially online with a straddle mechanic like ACR.

I think straddling creates situations for large pots based on some of the feelings, and therefore actions it can inspire. Tread very carefully in these volatile waters.

Can also give you an idea of the mood or confidence if someone who's been straddling night after night, or earlier half of the game, takes a few losses then completely stops doing it.

Interesting input. I've never really looked at the reads that are available from the straddle. Mostly I see the degrees of loose, aggressive, to down right careless. But I've never thought much to read the other players responses to the crazy straddlers other than my normal reads. Good stuff:top:

I usually like to straddle when im up but it is important to remember its just a blind bet and if you are card dead i would recommend doing it sparingly dont think because you straddled you have to play the hand its just a blind bet do not marry the hand because of it however when you get a strong flop it can be very profitable

Straddle only the button is my thing, every button. Play loose preflight, and tighten up post flop against aggression. If you meet no resistance, keep the pressure on. If you hit the flop in a nice way, your hand is disguised and you can capitalize big time. Gotta stay consistent though to disguise your monsters.
