What is the ideal amount to buy in to cash games with? 20x big blind? 50x?

Thanks! :)

I usually sit with x100, gives you more play when small stacks start shoving with crappy hands and if you lose a hand then it doesn't affect your overall stack size too much.

Also this is live cash games I'm talking about not online.

The correct answer to this question is "whatever the table maximum is".

Buy in full. Maximize the amount you can win when stacking your opponent.

The most crucial time to properly manage your bankroll is to use only the amount of money that you can afford to lose for the game. Accurate bankroll management is the key skill for a successful poker player, regardless of the level of your game. The most important rule, never risk big money in case you can be overtaken by downswing. Personally, I feel comfortable when I make the minimum buyin permissible for this game. There is always money left for that to recoup, and it is not terrible to go all in if it is necessary.

Somewhere around 100BB should do the job. But it all really depends on the table, whether people are very aggressive or not, for example, there is a home game in my town, where usual buy in is 100BB but preflop raises are not standard (2-4BB) but around 8-15BB which is quite a lot. In that particular game, buy in should be about 250+ BB
