You never seem to bait or overbet, this is why you struggled to comprehend the way to handle Bet365 calling stations.

You need to time your aggression well with them. Tighter than usual with starting hands, looser than usual with pot odds on any hit of any kind on the flop.

Swing big, win big: If you think I am stupid and will lose alot with this mentality then ignore me. I am telling what I believe is the truth. Calling stations are there to swing big and hard with, they are yours for the taking.

The reason you hated it at 10NL is that you are psychologically bankrolled for maximum 5NL. You pushed past your bankroll's safe zone of buy-in and got bullied by their large range. BRM is your issue, their playstyle isn't the issue.

Against stations both baiting & overbetting won't work unless your hand is strong. Which is most the times not the case I had at bet365. Still I'm faring well there.
And it's true. It's psychological that I'm not ready for 10NL due to BR.

Update

Tried a couple of tourneys at stars but not that luck I guess & some questionable plays.
It seems too hard to keep up grinding for sattys at both 2NL & 5NL. At 2NL because it takes time & I'm too bored at 2NL it seems. The game is too damn easy now. Played a full ring game with rational here and had a pleasant chat with him.
I do not agree with a lot of his plays but he doesn't agree with me so no point talking about that.
At 5NL it's a bit hard to grind because the money isn't there I guess. Or I'm playing too conservative or not motivated to grind. I think it's the latter mostly. Got to set new goals for this month. I will update the goals soon.

Stars roll is quite stable above $200. Won't let it go down under that.
But I'm considering seriously ditching stars for cash games. Too hard for me to see the money at 5NL right now. But the thing is i don't want the BR to go down $200 by playing tourneys & going on a loosing streak. Will see.

Played the 888 CC freeroll today. Had a really good run. Was the chip leader in the end. But unfortunately couldn't bag it.
Was placed 2nd for $20. I was really looking forward to winning today & it was a super easy HU game but aaaaahhhhhh........ the worst flip of all...

888 Poker - 1200/2400 Ante 300 NL - Holdem - 2 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4: http://www.pokertracker.com

Hero (SB): 39 BB
BB: 40.17 BB (VPIP: 26.42, PFR: 19.62, 3Bet Preflop: 4.17, Hands: 160)

2 players post ante of 0.13 BB, Hero posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.75 BB) Hero has Ad Ks
Hero raises to 2 BB, BB raises to 6.25 BB, Hero raises to 15.81 BB, BB raises to 40.04 BB and is all-in, Hero calls 23.06 BB and is all-in

Flop : (78 BB, 2 players) Tc Kc 9h

Turn : (78 BB, 2 players) 6c

River : (78 BB, 2 players) Ah

Hero shows Ad Ks (Two Pair, Aces and Kings)
(Pre 68%, Flop 63%, Turn 0%)

BB shows 5c Ac (Flush, Ace High)
(Pre 32%, Flop 37%, Turn 100%)

BB wins 78 BB :(:mad::mad::(

nevertheless 888 roll had a boost. wish it was 30 instead of 20

888 upto - $78.74

Got to decide how much time I'm gonna invest into playing tourneys in the future. Sometimes it can be so damn frustrating playing MTTs. Sometimes grinding cash could be so damn boring though. Specially if you aren't motivated enough.
Nothing feels like when you're running so good in a bounty or PKO tourney.
Got to think it through

I can relate to the mental issues of different stakes as well Alucard. It's just poker, but I do get more nervous at 2/5, and sometimes I'm not aggressive enough.

I'm going to ditch playing cash tables at Pokerstars full stop. Not only is the field harder than most sites but the new chests rakeback system is so woeful it is a positive joke/disgrace. Soon all you will get are points to another chest that you will never get unless you grind for weeks and out will pop some casino bonus lol. The people running Stars are business people slowly killing the site without realising what they are doing. The cash table rake funds the tourny payouts if they drive away the cash regs it will all collapse.
I'm going to keep playing a few tournys there but no more cash for now.

Honestly go and play anywhere else where the rakeback actually means something. In my experience 888 is one of the softer sites but their rakeback isn't that great, I used to play on bet365 myself but I can't download any Ipoker skins to my computer due to 'residual old files'. It was an earner that site but I don't miss it, traffic was light.
A few of the guys on here liked unibet but I never did join it but there are other sites to look at as well. I've yet to turn my attention to partypoker but I have an account and might go for cash games there yet. No need at the moment with the amount of fish at 888.

Here's the Italian guy streaming on twitch I told you about. He seems to be smooth sailing the higher stakes without much popularity.
The funny thing is he mentions about recs even on stars at higher stakes normal games where I have the difficulty to find 1 fish out of 5 tables at 5NL.
:D

https://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/...enges/evaners-blog-road-recreational-1601473/

His channel - you have to subscribe to watch old videos or catch him live otherwise
https://go.twitch.tv/evanertv

I asked him some questions at his last stream & this is what he said.

Soft players when you move up the stakes - You should pick the tables you play & the timing of the day plays an important factor as well. If you balance those two factors out, there's fish even at higher stakes even at stars.

Staking & selling his action - He likes the idea about staking but isn't interested in selling or buying. The only way it makes sense for him is when you are going to play a tourney that is beyond your BR. Otherwise he doesn't see the point of it.

Whether he is playing any tourneys - No he doesn't except for an occasional one or two. Told that he played the sunday million & cashed for a thousand bucks or more.

The guy plays in a few italian skins/sites. One is the italian skin for bwin/party. Plays euro tables @ stars. One ipoker site. & some other italian one I didn't recognize.

As Fig said, the chest rakeback system is super dumb & I never seem to get any other chests than the small red ones.
One time I played a couple of deep sessions at 5NL and after completing 4 chests on the same day it was mentioned that you can upgrade the chests after 6 hours, but apparently I missed that and still on the red ones.

The last star system was actually super cool. I liked how you could show off your stars level at the tables. It got shut down within about a month when I started playing. I've seen a lot of higher stakes regs bashing the stars system has gone to shit as well those days, but completely ditching it & moving to the stupid chests was plain old stupid & very uninteresting.

Bean, true that but it isn't only about poker. It happens usually when you try out something new which you aren't comfortable doing. You just need to prepare yourself for the gut punch you are gonna take in the beginning.

Terry, true that :p But I have to manage the time I'm gonna put to tourneys. It would be optimal in many ways & I'll be much more efficient & focused when I'm playing.

I have never really gotten the idea of staking except if you're not a player yourself (or worse than the player you stake), but have money to spare for him to play above his bankroll.
Are there other arguments to be made for staking?

Btw Alucard, you're a good man for dealing with madman the way you do. Few people can (myself included, I love the drama tbh. Gives me something to laugh about).

Staking in general was introduced to reduce variance I think. I'm not very educated about that side either.
Lets say I have a friend who has similar skill levels of playing. We participate in 10 tourneys together. And we buy 50% of the others action.
This way you can reduce variance.
If one guy looses $100 of buy ins & the other wins $100, then it's break even.
Lets say you have 100% of your action & goes on a downswing & looses $100. You have no way to minimise the losses. But by selling, you can. The same thing other way around. When you have 100% when you win, you have it all. But when you sell, the others get a piece of the winnings.

Then what's the point of selling? Because in poker & specially in MTTs winning & winning big is not a frequent thing.

In an investment pov, it could be really something though.
I'll take 2 examples. wsop main event winner had some of his friends back him for $500 each or something like that. And they won big (over 10k for each I think) just by throwing away a little cash as support for a friend.

The other would be this time WCOOP winner SvZff sold a ton of his action. almost over 50% I think. So even though he won over 1.5 mil, he only took 250k or something like that. His investors were the real winners.

But as I said in a previous post, trent has told me that it's EV- to buy action these days because it's hard to find good people to back.
Take a look at Figaroo's thread update. He has won some money this month but lost a chunk of it by backing someone.

If I'm to sell my action, I would like to keep at least 60% of it.
Just my thoughts.

Rational is a cool guy. Reminds me of one of those old age philosophers like Aristotal. :D
I don't agree with most of what he's saying of course, but no point in arguing because of the way he is. He'll come to that realisation himself with some experience.

Thanks Keith for this as always.
Pretty sick find with that ipoker scam :adore:
I'll read through your blog

I'm not gonna sell my action any time soon. I'd like to keep 100% of my self right now and not prepared for big tourneys. Perhaps sometime later.

I suppose selling and staking makes some sense in some cases.

But looking at what most of us play here, micro stakes... if you have proper BRM selling seems like a ridiculous idea to me.

A huge update on my life. I finally called quits on University.
I couldn't handle it anymore. For one I'm not good at it even though I've been a great/intelligent student. And through time I've tried to understand what's the purpose of getting a degree & specially why I am trying to get a degree?
Job/Life security? To be a respectable person in the society? All those stuff didn't make sense to me as my goals & dreams are far more vivid than what that could give me.
I felt mentally broken while I am at Uni. Depressed & frustrated. Learning things I'm not interested about or outdated or have no practicality in the modern day life, & forcibly pushed into writing exams within a time limit where apparently a single paper could mean a whole lot for your future.
I've realised this for some time now & I've talked with my parents & what they said manage & do it without taking it too seriously & pass with ordinary passes.
So I tried but still that mental barrier was there. I found it as an excuse that is keeping myself restrained of letting me live to my full potential & achieve what I want in life.
And the exams were getting closer I was getting mentally frustrated day by day. All my progress in other stuff were on hold because of this.
So finally I noted down the advantages & the disadvantages I see for my self for doing the degree. Not surprisingly advantages were totally outnumbered by the number of disadvantages.
So I finally took a leap of faith, and called it quits.
I told my mother & surprisingly she took it well. Maybe perhaps I've been talking about this for some time. Didn't talk to my father but perhaps she has told him. But they both are kind of being supportive to my/our endeavours after that. Perhaps more than before.

And more than anything I feel really happy. My mind freed. That frustration, depression isn't there anymore. And I have no more excuses to hide myself behind to go the distance of what I want to achieve.
NO MORE EXCUSES! IT'S ALL IN OR NOTHING AT ALL.

I feel really happy, free & motivated. Now to get things done.

1. I need a stable income. So a job. I don't have many liabilities, so many of what I'll be earning will be going to investments & developing my businesses.

2. Get more involved with my parents' business line.
That place is a gold mine filled with enthusiastic people who has one thing in mind. Dreams & achieving their dreams. I have been involved with it for some time now but haven't committed myself fully to it but from now on I am. There's money to be made + tons if stuff to learn about business, sales & marketing + valuable contacts

3. Develop my own businesses. I don't know if I have said this before but a friend & myself came up with the idea to export coconut water to European & American countries. The potential for this is huge due to the demand you guys have for coconut water. I even talked to terry about it and he offered me some help in Canadian side of things. But unfortunately I lost my contact with my friend. Perhaps he ditched me or gave up on the idea & I talked to the authorities & it takes a huge undertaking to make it successful. So a big investment is needed. I haven't given up on the idea but I feel I need to be financially stable with a good business plan to start with this.

Meanwhile I'll be looking into some other small scale stuff including an export line. One that has less complications. I have some ideas so will continue through that.
I've got the ultimate dream of owning a successful business chain/group so all of this is for that.

4. Study & learn what I want to learn & what I'm passionate about.
Trading & technical analysis is one of the most important things I need to learn & be an expert of. So will be putting a good deal of my time for that.
The other things would be business analysis, marketing & sales & whatnot. And also poker.
Plus I've been learning German for a while. Because I have an idea to move in to Europe in the future. So will will dedicating some time to that.

5. Improve my investment portfolio & get more involved with the financial & crypto market.
I don't know if you know this about me but I'm very passionate about cryptocurrency. Obviously it's high risk at this state of time but I see huge potential within the idea.
For an example what's one thing we don't like the most? Being pushed into a certain lifestyle surrounded by laws that is forced by the governments. They've limited people's freedom in a sense through their governing. How to live the life & how to spend the money you earn. Crypto does solve this in a sense. + huge gains if you use your brain. So you need to be very educated on the subject. And I'm very much into private equity. Specially speaking venture capital. But I'm not powerful or educated enough to proceed further. Still I try to get my hands when possible. Need to build up connections & get educated.

6. Fitness. Mental & physical -
I will be going to the gym at least 2 times a week. Hopefully 3 times. Have a good meal plan & eat healthy. Do cardio. And perhaps try some Yoga as well. Mental aspect of things I'll start meditating more & do dream lessons frequently. Will be taking hypno & energy wave sessions more.

7. Poker -
I see myself doing fine in poker. But I need to study & improve if I need to move up the stakes much more efficiently. So will put more effort to plugging my leaks, improving my strategies & to be effective as possible.
I enjoy the game. But it's more of a money thing to me.
One of the most important things poker has taught me is to be not afraid of taking risks. Don't be afraid of money. It's just a game. A money game. If you are better than most, the more you win.
But of course variance is a killer. So I have no goal to be in the game for a very long time as to become pro poker player. Not interested of making this my main thing. Lets say the goal is to become a rec that is as good as the pros.
In the present, poker is very important to me. As I see it can help me financially for me to continue with my other doings. So will obviously dedicate more time to the game.

Sorry for the long long post. I felt it's important to write it down even though this is a poker blog.
I feel really happy & motivated with the decision I took.
I'm not a job guy. I'm more of an entrepreneur & a business guy. I felt my life is been wasted too long on unimportant things & that I'm having it as an excuse not to live my life the way I wanted the best way I can. I was being lazy & demotivated.
So this is what I should do to get that excuse out of my life. There's no turning back. No secondary plan if this "doesn't" work out. All in or nothing at all.
Looking forward to brighter days. I am really happy & very excited.

Thanks for reading guys & thank for the support, help & advice you've given me. Love you all!
I'll update my short term poker goals for this month very soon. :D

Well hopefully you have done what's right for you.
If you don't mind me asking, Where are you from and what course did you pull out of? I remember you telling Beanface you were of Asian ethnicity but I really didn't know anything else about you until this recent post.
I would say don't be too quick to tell prospective employers you dropped out of University. I know it's not for everyone but as a person who has occasionally been involved in hiring people the value of a degree is not necessarily what you actually learned but that the student showed enough discipline and self motivation to complete the course in an environment with a ton of distractions. It shows a bit of gumption and moral fibre that makes persons with good degrees highly sought after.
Again I'm not saying any of that relates to you. You sound like a guy who is much better suited working for himself than others anyway.
As an aside if you pm me an email address I can send you a copy of the polished poker book, it is a very useful reference that has helped many people around this forum become winning players. I also have accumulated loads of other useful poker reference material that I can share.

Thanks Fig.
I'm from Sri Lanka & I did a Science Degree where you can choose a specialisation when you move on further.
Unlike most countries our education system is free so you don't have to pay for tuition in government unis but it's tough to get selected to one.I went to the best school/college in the country & I had not much trouble getting selected to uni of course. Then you'd ask me why would you ever ditch such a valuable thing that's totally free when in many countries they'd wish & dream of not paying for uni..
Well because just because it's free it's doesn't mean it's that good & I was totally uninterested in what I was doing. Above all it made a bunch of lazy people who'd take things too lightly considering you don't have to work hard for it in a sense. Same thing happened to me. I didn't fare well due to the fact that this isn't what I want to do & I was being lazy as hell & plus the revolution I had within myself what I wanted to do with life.
I don't see myself as a guy who'd be satisfied by doing a decent enough job getting a decent salary per month & living the life as an "ordinary" person would. I hope I'm not offending anybody I'm just saying what I feel about my self. I want to live a life with excitement, living on the edge taking risks & to its fullest filled with riches. So with extensive research I've come to the conclusion that this is not the path for me. How many highly successful millionaires in the world have their degrees & jobs to be thankful for that? How much can you do in the world, revolutionise in a sense by doing something that most in the world would do?
WHO AM I & WHAT AM I? generally speaking.

And yeah the advice you've given is totally true & I accept it. Besides the degree is still in my CV lol. I wouldn't be an idiot and try to explain all this in an interview & that I quit uni. From the employers' perspective, I totally understand what you mean.

I'll PM you my email.
Many thanks again!
For the help & advice you've given me so far & hopefully the future as well!

A little update on this months poker goals

I'm gonna decide how much time I'm gonna put in to playing poker from now on each day. Specially how many tourneys I'm gonna play & hand pick the ones I'll be playing.
The timing of the day will play a special role specially on cash sessions. If I'm grinding, specially on party poker, I'd prefer after 1-2 AM till 10-11 AM. I feel that's the time where I can catch more fish & less regs.

Will be focusing on grinding on party & 888.

Party are running a very good rake promotion this month with their monster series promo.
You can find it all here.
https://www.partypoker.com/monster-series/rake-race.html

But because of my bankroll taking a big hit from my last 5NL adventure & the promotion is 5NL upwards, I'm gonna grind 2NL there until I'm fully prepared both mentally & bankroll wise & get ready for the rake race. But it's fast forward games which I despise a lot. So unless I see a profitable future there, I'll be dropping out of the rake race. It's important to be confident & improve your game than trying to catch promos. right?

I feel $150 is a good comfortable margin.

Since I'm only playing 5NL upwards at 888 no immediate goals there.
As soon as I get comfortable playing at 5NL, I will close this thread down & move on to a new one.

Will be moving all my main cash action to party & 888.
At stars, my main focus will be tourneys. But will not let the roll take hits. So if I'm loosing some day in tourneys, I'll grind it out in cash. My daily budget for tourneys will be around $10-20. So if I go on negative, will grind out probably playing 2NL.

One more thing, I'm not going to continue playing on Bet365 for now. Got a thought moving the roll to Titan Poker. I've around $2 or close there & the player field seems super soft.

I feel party poker is the best site to grind promotion wise. 888 is fine but meh..
Will start a party session some time later today.

Oh one small thing I forgot to mention. I'll be reading more!
Specifically business & entrepreneurial related stuff. Poker has some space as well.

At the moment I'm reading Think & Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. I haven't touched the book since I started studying for the last semester exams. lol.
Will start from the beginning.
Poker related - Bruce just sent me a copy of John's book. Thanks again!

Just want to say i`m super excited for you,you remind me of me 25 yrs ago.If you want it Alu,it`s there for the taking.A wise old man once told me,Terry, walls and doors are put in place to seperate the winners and losers. It`s the guys who break down those walls and kick open those doors who make it.And the ones who don`t have the fortitude to do it,fall by the wayside(job, unemployment,or worse) I decided early on,i wasn`t made to work and make someone else money,i could make it myself.I wasn`t focused on money,i was focused on quality, and people, connections are key,be honest with people,be genuine, work hard, work smart, surround yourself with people on `your` team,,be happy on your journey, have no regrets, share, and have fun,,,;) Team Alu,Woot!

For once alucard has shown balls; mucho respeto amigo. f*** education and its ranking of you based on your capacity for obedience and repetitive work.

Look at north korea, no really look at north korea. Look at Mugabe's Zimbabwe, Castro's Cuba, The Khmer Rouge Cambodia... you have options... Hell, just look at your own nation from the point of view of a Tamil a few decades back... You have options, maybe not unlimited ones but options nonetheless. You are much freer than many and should embrace that 'luck' and use 'skill' to capitalize on it as poker is life in the end and it's something all poker sharks realize and why they all live happy, fulfilled lives if they really develop a deep passion for the game on a philosophical level.

For once? The whole journey throughout his membership in CC has been nothing but. His ability to openly discuss, dispense his opinions, admit fault when apparent and learn from those mistakes/criticism has been his defining traits. He's been willing to throw away pride and ego to become a better player.

You can certainly learn a lot from his approach.

Thanks Terry! You've always supported me & helped me & motivated as you could. Glad to have you on my side supporting me my friend!
Here's to a great, exciting & successful future!!
