I recognise that ths is a very common thread topic, however I think I can be a little bit more specific than others. I want to specialise in playing live cash games and tournaments, as they're what I find the most fun - I'm not looking to go pro but a little spending money or at least to break even would be amazing. I think I'm just about there playing micros online and low stakes live, however I'd obviously like to move up stakes when I can to increase the amount of money I make.

Most of the time, live games are full ring, and they almost always are when playing live tournaments. That's why I think that full ring poker would be better to play online, because it's practicing the type of game I'm most likely to play in real life. However, most of the resources available online (and a lot of a really good ones) focus on 6-max playing.

Given my circumstances, which do you advise I play? Also, which do you play any why?

consider that you're going to be paying blinds quicker in 6 than 9, not by much than a full 9 table however 6 max goes alot quicker other than that i've not experienced very much difference but that's me

Start with 9-max, then move to 6-max and eventually play both at the same time.

If I'm playing cash, I prefer 6-max over full ring. Honestly, I enjoy a short handed table even more, with the right players.

I,m sure, that there is no need to play 9 people ring game, because you loose lots of your time for nothing, while someone get disconnected, someone can slowplay everytime and this will make the game really slow. So, if you fold few hands in a row, you can wait for another for something like half and hour and this is not ok.
So, in my opinion, it,s just better to play 6 players table.

The main difference for me is I loosen my starting ranges up a little in 6max. Its faster paced and blinds come around quicker so I feel I need to play more hands to off set the blinds.

The times when it was possible to play break-even poker without efforts were long gone. Now you must learn to play and strictly adhere to the strategy in order not to lose.

Many poker rooms deliberately promote exactly 6-max tables, as they play a more aggressive game and generate more rake. This is not "the best experience for players", it is just a business and an increase in profits.

In tournaments, I prefer to play long tables. This makes it possible to play a solid game with good cards, rather than speculating any two cards while desperately bluffing.

if you want to play cash games then 6-max is the most suitable option for you, the majority of cash-game players play exactly 6-max

Much prefer the short tables both cash and SnG. Like how quick they run and how most villains have a huge range. Little higher variance but not much. Use to play the 45 and 90 SnG with nine at a table. Those got harder to fill and run. Switched to the 6 and enjoy them more than the 9.

I think you should start off by playing full ring as its the easiest to convert into anything else

zoom would be better as you can play more hands and make it a little bit more fun however, 5nl does not let you play zoom so when you become a winning player at 2nl full ring to make it more fun you have to go to zoom 5nl

I prefer to play in a table of 9 people, because i got used to it,but I don't perform well, so it is maybe time for a change.

WEll..

I think that depends on the game you are playing, some games in "6-max" feels so "rushed (for me)

If you thinking about moving stakes:There is no much action in full ring upstakes. So sooner or later you will need move to 6-max.

If you want to prepare to live full ring and tournaments: p
Play at first 9max. Variance is lower you will faster will see your winrate.

9 max is easier, less volatile; I would recommend start there and go up in stakes in 9 max
