Perhaps I'm not maximizing value on winning hands? Here's one of the only hands I won last night (before my BR headed down another dollar or so). I think at the end I was worried about a straight draw from someone holding 68s. In retrospect perhaps I should have raised on the flop, bet the other rounds and especially re-raised on the river.

And also here, where I didn't raise PF with AJs, which as I look at the PF guide in Lee Jones' book AND in SSHE, BOTH recommend raising PF. I may have had "off suited broadways" in my head and decided only to call. Either way I got chased out as soon as the flop missed me.

I'll sit there for an hour and see maybe 5 flops outside of being a BB. I just don't understand how I'm losing money still.
...or I'm playing so aggressive that everyone else folds and I don't win anything.

This is how you're losing money. Thats like tight NL tourney play. You're getting eaten up by the blinds and when you rarely do play they know you have something.

Yeah, I actually started reading through SSHE and I noticed that even for "tight" games, Sklansky recommends a MUCH looser set of a preflop hands than does Jones. For example in EP, Jones only suggests playing with 99-TT, KQs, KJs, ATs and AQo besides the obvious, but Sklansky recommends ANY suited cards 10 and higher as well as 77+ not to mention recommends capping the betting wtih QQ+ and AKs.

But even then, he recommends playing the "loose" set of rules as a default until the game turns really tight.

So I expect to be playing much more aggressive and slightly less tight.

Here are a couple hands from this past week.

First-- I'm pretty sure I played this hand exactly the way I should have. I don't think I could have done anything different that would have been more correct. This is one of my first hands after finishing the bulk of SSHE.

Second-- I thought this was pretty solid playing until the river betting. I had a very good hand, and I was confident I could beat most hands that get shown at the river, especially considering what kind of junk people call with. However after my raise I got 3-Betted, so I was facing either a very strong hand or a very risky bluff. She was check-calling to the river and then 3-Betted so at this point I should have been putting them on a straight which would beat my 2 pair Should have folded?

Third-- K8s was a weak call from middle/latish position. After the flop I was getting 6 to 1 to hit the runner-runner flush or hit top pair, WHILE THE BOARD WAS PAIRED. It would have been very hard to put the bettor on anything at that point, but still IMO, very poor call, should have folded.

In the first hand, I think it's the implied odds that make it a pretty winning call. You are likely up against a six. If you hit a 6 on the river, you'll probably win one more bet if you bet out. If you hit a T on the river, you'll probably win two more bets if you check-raise.

First hand:

Viking, I'm a little confused about what you mean. I bet out because the river was slightly threatening (3 to a flush, so anyone with a flush would have raised, i would probably have called because the pot was a little large, thanks Sklansky) although it seems as though anyone with a flush draw would have folded by then, after the betting on the flop and turn.

In retrospect I was rasing into some risky territory on the flop, but one the turn hit, the 5 trips with ace was too strong not to play aggressively, especially considering there was only passivity from the rest of the table. When that king fell I was a little worried that there MAY have been a flush draw, so I guess betting was the right choice because I would have called a bet to showdown anyway with trips.

It seems like villain may have had a missed straight draw after showing weakness on the river. But betting on the turn after the 5 hit seems like they may have been trying to represent 5's because a 5 didn't help the straight, only the flush, and when the 3rd heart fell and he checked, it looked like the turn bet was either a bluff, or I was about to get check raised on the river, which would have sucked because I STILL would have called to see the showdown.

The raise on the flop destroyed drawing odds pretty well, they were going to get at least 10 to 1 if I had only called, and raising gave everyone else in the hand (except villain) 4.5 to 1, which would have had to be a very strong hand already that I probably would have lost to anyway. I protected my weak hand well. However on the turn that gave people 7 to 1 pot odds, AND there was a flush draw on the turn, so anyone with 2 hearts had pretty much 4 to 1 to hit their flush on the river (9/46 hearts, 46/9 = 5, so 4 to 1?). But I raised again, giving them only 5 to 1 pot odds, although they STILL would have been correct to call, especially now that the pot was over 10BBs.

Viking is talking about the very first hand Scoob. Maybe its time to start new thread so there aren't so many hands to confuse.

4-betting the river in the second hand is crazy.

The flop raise in the first hand is a bit odd. What are your plans for the hand if you brick the turn? What were you trying to accomplish with the flop raise? You say you were protecting your hand, but there isn't much hand worth protecting...
