- Preflop
3 ways
Eric Perssons decides on a check raise
Perssons is a white magic player,
but from a GTO solver viewpoint lets see what part of Patriks Range has fold equity
3 bets preflop ,
bets 40k on flop and can raise the reraise of 100k to 250k
88+ AA
AKs
AQs , (solver3 bets at a higher frequency than AKs)
A5s KQs (low frequency GTO 3 bets preflop)
So on this board of 3h 3c 8h his AK/q/5 /kqs would cbet
but could only continue reraising with 1/4th of his suited ace K/q/5/kqs combos
3/4th would be of the wrong suit ie. spades clubs diamonds
& higher pairs like AA KK QQ may also 3bet this flop against lags
So Eric Perssons check raise got information and had potential to make
3/4 AK combos to fold
3/4 aq combos to fold
3/4 KQs to fold
6 combos of 99 , 1010, JJ, QQ, KK, AA for a total of 36 combos
9 combos with fold equity
39 combos of Value(could be 27 if he would fold 10's & jacks)
4:1 of Patriks range continues
Knowing what we know now Perssons had an easy fold even if he was against 10's
but not everything is so cut and dry
Modern GTO often doesn't try to 3 bet a flush draw into an opponent thats not going anywhere
It aims to realize its equity and then get paid
So Patrick knew Perssons didn't have anything preflop, thats why he went with the semi bluff
Persons put him on AK and reraised him but left the flop with the afterthought that he has Aces Kings or Queens as 6/8 AK combos fold to the check raise
The combos pool leadsus to an interesting range for Patrik ,weighted towards KK QQ JJ 1010
4 times 6= 24 combos of high pairs
aks=1 combo
AQs= 0 true combos(becuase the queen is in Erics hand)
WOW!!!This Ace of spades is from Space!!!!
Patrick bets 150k into 600k out of position
Eric Persons goes ALL IN , 692k more for Antonius
Patrik Antonius makes the call and takes down a record pot
Extra credit- could Eric Persson have won the pot by playing differently?
or did he play the spot maniacly optimal?
