Live casino game, 1700 bucks gone

Alright boys and girls, grab a chair and some popcorn and listen to the epic hand of my life. I like to call this "the greatest and or worst hand I've ever played"

I go to Harrah's Casino in St Charles Missouri... aka Northwest St Louis, over the water front... federal property, completely legal to build a multi billion dollar casino there.

I show up thursday night, couple weeks back - buy in short stacked to a 1,2$ 200$ max table, with 100$. Online this is suicide mind you, 100 at a 1,2 will get you stacked 4 of 5 times barring a miracle. But this was live, and that's what I do. I cash out that night with 380$, not bad. Next night, buy in with 200, and cash out 740, or 540$ profit. Saturday night, I step it up... Im on vacation - what the hell. I take my 720$ to a 1000$ max, 5, 10$ table. Oh yeah, that's right. This limit was only offered this night, so I was like why not.

After playing tight aggressive for about 3 hours, I was up to 2700$, no lie. And I get a call on my cell that the people im with really want to leave. So I look at what is to be my last hand of the night, 2 ahead of the button, with limpers galore ahead of me already in. (60$ in the pot, 2 to act behind) I have A,J clubs. So I make it 100$ to go.

Both player behind me call. This scares me. Then the big blind asks how many callers, then calls. This scares me more... with 3 to 1 for her money, this lady is playing anything! So the flop. 2, 5, 9 - two of which are clubs. The BB with any two cards (atc) checks quickly, which she hadn't done all night. I tell her "I dont trust you, I know you paired up"... then the two guys behind me check and the dealer deals the turn. I got really mad here, with the flush draw and 2 overs, I was a favorite against a pair, and was going to continuation bet... but the turn was already out there, and there was no point in arguing since it was a J.

Now I have top pair, top kick, and the nut flush draw. BB bets out 350$ which is MUCH more like she had been doing all night. Ive seen her drop to re raises, plus I'm thinking I'm very much ahead now, so I bump it... to a grand! WEEEEEEEEEE. Sorry, I get carried away telling this story. Fold, fold behind me. She calls quickly... no more weeeeeeeeee.

Flop misses my flush, she bets out 500 bucks... at this time there is 2460 bucks in the pot, at 6 to 1, with top pair and top kick, I reluctantly call hoping the woman is full of it.

She turns over 5,2 off suit, and POOF! There goes my 1700$ in one hand. I walk out, up 900$ on the weekend... with a little pride, and a great story.

Born in Shrewsbury, parents live off Tesson Ferry - I go home for Christmas and St Pats every year. That was the first time I've been to Harrah's. I wish I could have continuation bet the flop, so I would have folded to her imminent re-raise, but that's just one of those things. Dealer screwed me there.

where in this hand would you have stopped the bleeding, or would you have folded it knowing you could leave up so much and just left the hand pre flop... cause I almost did.

i probably would have folded and left (in hindsight it's easy to say) but it's easy to lose money with AJ, and being up so much.. it's not something i'm wanting to do. you probably werent playing at your best when you were ready to leave, so prolly shoulda just left.

Got a question for you - she checked the flop (which you said she never did on previous hands), and bet the turn when a J hit.

I know you've got TPTK on the turn, but what on earth did you think she had? Even if your first assumption was correct (she paired on the flop), I would be willing to assume, based on her turn bet, that the turn also helped her - so two pair anyway.
I would have popped on the turn too - because you've still got plenty of outs to go for, and you have to be certain of her hand, but I would do it assuming I'm behind - so a semi-bluff.

condolences on losing the big hand - I've done it before too, although not to the tune of a grand on one hand!

Well I had made a lot of money playing back at her that night, and I really had her on a pair / draw semi bluff (maybe open ended with 3,4 or even the club draw in which case I'd have her dominated) with that pot size turn bet. So I assumed I had a much stronger pair / draw - and that I would take it down with the reraise. I still can't believe I put in a grand on a single street, and if a club hit - this would be a bragging thread. God I love poker. I knew I got myself into trouble on this hand, but I really wanted to play it like it was any other house game - so I did.

On a side note, I probably would have left up 1200 if I didn't tip the cocktail waitresses and dealers 10 bucks everytime. It was my smallest chip for about 2 hours.

Reminds me of one of my "good" sessions where I kept notes on everything.

total buy ins - $200
total cash out - $623
profit - $423
good, right?

total rake paid on hands I was in - $427
total tips to dealers on winning hands - $144
drinks, food, tips - $40

can you imagine how much money we'd all have if we didn't rake/tip?
