I know I am beat here, but I am getting like.. 4.5:1 on my money and if I hit my set I'm pretty sure someone is probably getting stacked. It's pretty clear that someone has a pretty big hand here and I really had no idea what to do.

So it's just that simple, if I think I can win 36 dollars when I hit my set I should call. I shouldn't be considering anything else?

um not really. i insta muck this most times. Your likely way behind now and its unlikely that you will win enough to justify cslling. also edit 12:1 to closer to 8-10:1 because it much more likely you will stack someone here if you hit.

Sure your getting good odds to call this but considring the size of the raise in front of you, your flop would have to be almost perfect with no A/K/Q hitting the flop with your 2.
I also fold here most times just becacause 22 is too easily counterfeited.

You don't really have the implied odds you need. You would have to stack 2 players for this to be +EV. If you call the extra $3 you only have about $20 left behind (less than 7:1), but you need at least 12:1 or more to make this +EV. This ratio has been discussed extensively in other threads, most intelligently by AlienGenius.

I did fold because I just knew that I was dominated but it just seemed like I would be getting the right odds to make the call but now that I think about it, there is no way I'm going to make enough here to make it a +EV play, this wasn't really even worth posting :p

It was completely worth posting. If people learn new things (like I did) in each thread, then the thread served its purpose correctly.

No, actually this concept of implied odds needed for set mining bears repeating. Good post.

fold. you are 8 to 1 to hit a set by the river, and are only getting 4.5 to 1 on your money. pocket deuces have no merit at all if they miss, and callind is definetely a -EV play. i am always trying to limp in cheap and make a set in a pot i know is going to be big, but you are now either crushed under a bigger pair or coinflipping. so i reccomend a fold here.

This particular play is most definitely a fold. But, what you are suggesting is that he should fold every low pocket pair pre-flop if there is any raise whatsoever. You are 8-1 to make a set, and you are definitely not getting the right odds to make the call. But you call anyways because the implied odds usually outweigh the odds on your money.
