NL Holdem 0.25(BB)

Dealt to Hero: J A

UTG Raises To 2BBs, HJ Folds, CO Folds, HERO Raises To 7.4BBs, SB Folds, BB Folds, UTG Calls 5.4BBs

Hero SPR on Flop: [11.13 effective]
Flop (16.2BBs): A 8 5
UTG Checks, HERO Checks

Turn (16.2BBs): A 8 5 T
UTG Bets 15BBs (Rem. Stack: 165.4BBs), HERO Calls 15BBs (Rem. Stack: 197.3BBs)

River (46.2BBs): A 8 5 T 4
UTG Bets 43.2BBs
(Rem. Stack: 122.1BBs), HERO Calls 43.2BBs (Rem. Stack: 154BBs)

Flop seems very dry. So I need some Ax to x/c some Ax hands to b/c. I think AJs is a perfect hand for x/c. So my plan is to play this hand as a bluffcatcher. Villain is unkown. Is it ok to play AJs as a bluffcatcher in that kind of situation?

AJs actually blocks JJ, which is a hand you'd like Villain to have in his range. While being a suited combo, you release more AQ/AK off combos that the opponent could call preflop after you 3-bet. Whereas AQs and AKs combos will probably 4-bet.
As for the texture of the board, it is more likely that you have improved, since you have much more combos: 67 from BU than V from UTG. So it's really unlikely that your villain will continue betting on the river with Axes you beat, such as A9s or A7s because they also block your bluffs.
Added to that, it sounds like you played in fear of your opponent holding an ace.
If V is competent, you will find 2 pairs/sets here most of the time you want to call an UTG opener OTR.
Greetings.

Seems a reasonable spot to check back an A. The big bet on the river would concern me and you will be shown AK or a set often, but when you are inviting bluffs it's not too bad to call down though its probably no more than a break even play

Why not simplify and bet range on this flop?

No stats on UTG?

Not a huge fan of the 3-bet pre, but don't hate it. The call down is fine after checking the flop, but really villain dependent. Without info, it's probably slightly higher EV to fold, but it's close.
