Player 2 seats to my right all night was making ridiculous preflop raises and at times rebuying after every hand.

In this $1/$3 game, a preflop raise of $65 was almost typical.

I called with JJ. The flop came 7-10-2. I checked, he raised $50. I acted hesitant, looked over at his stack and reraised all in. He immediately called and tossed his pocket 8's at me. The next card came a six,... Then he started shouting "NINER!!! NINER!!! And the his nine came.

I just want to hear a few pieces of advice on handling the table bully like that. Common points of weakness, etc...

You got unlucky in one hand. Welcome to Variance Town. If villain plays like that all the time it is only a matter of time before he punts stacks. You did nothing wrong. Reload, re-center, and ready yourself to catch his next kick

This nitty aggro sits on your right is definitely an ATM. Facing this flop with JJ you are doing no wrong just as most of the comments said it is a matter of bad beat. You are leading with 90% equity, what else do you expect.
Just wait for a good hand and a good spot. And don't overplay AQ and AK if you miss facing these opponents. Also, your mental game is your biggest leak which will lead you to do some bad move (sth like overplay two overs facing these nitty aggros). Calm down and think about strategies facing these maniacs. Focus on whether you make a good decision rather than affected by the results.
The upswing is coming if you are the best player.

I leave as soon as one of these types sit down. Yes, they can be an ATM when you hit a flop hard, but if you have to call off 20 BB with every hand, you will lose it back quickly.

When i say quality holding, really you want to flop top 2, a set, or a str8 to bust him with. Yeah, JJ looks nice on this board but a lot of his random Ax hands like AQ, AK still have 8 outs, his random Tx hands have around 7 outs, and you are super hurt to the occasional value-raise he made pre using his image, ie, he knows people think he is crazy so he can pop it huge with AA or KK and still get 1 or 2 calls.

I agree but this guy had nowhere near an AK or AQ, I could tell by having watched him.

I just don't like sitting down to get up without playing, especially in a crowded poker room where it is hard to get a seat.

You played it optimally. If he hits his 1.5% oh well it happens. Just remember when you dance with maniacs your profit chart becomes high swing which in MTTs is to be avoided. This was cash so you did the correct move on every street.

If it was an MTT i'd avoid the player especially with a 40 BB stack or more.

You can always tell. They buy in, don't even bother to stack their chips, they talk loud, flamboyant, like to pretend like they are the big guys. "lemme tell you about the time..." is their favorite quote. They usally stick to 1/2, 1/3, 2/5 games.

They just randomly do crazy stuff like make it 17x with 44. They bet 100 into 35. They jam a lot. Super aggro for no reason. Cant play.

Dude.... this is a great game, and dude hates money. He just hates money.

Don't tilt. Reload. Set your purse down, super glue your ass to the chair, and play.

It's one hand. You got it in super good. You played it fine. This is why people that are really bad play the game, because they can get lucky, and win, at any given time. Poker is a long term game, and if we keep it together, we can reap the benefits and profit long term.

Keep your chin up and keep grinding away. Try to focus on the fact that we have to put in volume to see the profits (if we play better than our opponents, no tilty).

When playing for the gain of money:Just use good bank role management and try play your best game as you did. You did all things right and got the money in against perfect odds you should be proud off it. Variance is just there one must accept that.
When being a recreational player and just want some fun:
Just look for another table and consider playing for less money if you hate loosing such an amount.

I would love to play with guys like this, you just run out of lucky once, 1 hour playing against him you could probably get back your money + his stack.

do not complain when you face guys like this, you are just not knowing how to play against this player, perhaps you should study how to fight back specific players with this profile.

Great. "bankroll management" is the primary phrase I am now going to associate with this. It was "position" because I slowplayed him at first on his right.

Great study blog to keep in mind. A common character.:captain:

Sorry I’m a little late to the party, but whenever these types of things happen to me, I try to focus on how his losing mentality (calling for and praying for long shots) is going to make me money in the long run. Nothing makes a winning poker player more money than fish thinking and playing so poorly.

Another way to think about it is if nobody at your table is playing poorly or recklessly, then making money will be very difficult. Therefore, bad play should be welcomed and bad beats seen as evidence that bad play is occurring (with some exceptions of course).

Walking away is acceptable if your emotions have the best of you (or your bankroll is tight), but consider that the tables with bad players should be the last ones you leave.

These type of players are ridiculous hard to play against. Maybe change casino or wait till he runs out of money.

-1 :)
They are hard to play but only mentally (you need to have tons of patience), poker-wise they are too easy. Tighten up and crush them. That being said, why shove with JJ, let him hang himself and barrel with any 2 cards on the turn/river if he really plays very loose.

As for the "bully" as you said, I encountered similar situations in my live sessions. When you look at them objectively, you realize that it's more like, the guy is having tons of fun, rather then he is trying to tilt people intentionally.

Another thing is the sizing. In my live games, standard pre flop sizing is 10-15BB (it used to be 30-40BB but it got softer over the years), that's cause the stacks are quite deep and the blinds are very small in real money worth. That being said, 20BB pre flop raises isn't bulling as much as it is a standard way of playing things in a particular casino.

really? these players are so easy to play against if they call you all in with worse than top pair. all you have to do is play tight, dont bluff and get it in when you have value and soon youll barely be able to see over your own chipstack you built from this sucker.

to the original poster, Jdjakubisin, dont be results oriented. you got the money in with the best hand and got sucked out on. thats poker, youll get used to this eventually. the important thing is not to let one hand affect you like this. yesterday i played 1200 hands online and ran a set into quads.... twice! guess what, it didnt phase me, i said nice hand, moved on, and continued to play my best game and crushed the field because in the long run the way i played my hands make money.
