Hey guys,

Just wanted to post a hand at my casino and see if there was anything I could of done differently or if this was a hand I was bound to lose my stack.

I have about $210 effective stack. and V1 and V2 both have about $600 effective

V1 is new from another table and plays straight forward
V2 is LAG who has been running hot

I'm in UTG +2 with :ac4::kd4: and there is UTG straddle to $10

I open to $35 (I look back and I should of sized to maybe $45 not sure if would of made a difference)

and V1 in SB calls and UTG straddler calls

($105) Flop :as4::7h4::8c4:

I cbet $55 and both call. At this point I put V2 on a draw and V1 possibly with AQ AJ type hands.

Turn
:10d4:

The board is complete rainbow and this is where I made a decision to go all in for the rest of my stack about 120.

Should I be checking turn and hope it checks around or if i face a turn bet should I be folding? I feel like if I check fold turn it might be exploitable.

The river was a :4c4:

V1 had :7h4::7s4: for a set
V2 has :6h4::5s4: and hit the straight..
Like I said he was running hot.

Is there anything I could of done differently?

Thanks,

I think, you played this perfectly fine. With the 10$ straddle you were effective 20 BB deep, and then there is just no way to get away from TPTK on a fairly dry board like this. The other guys made the preflop mistake and just happened to suck out on you this time.

But a 10$ straddle in a 1/2$ game? That is quite crazy, since it increase the size of the blinds 5 times. 20 BB poker is very high variance, so if you are not solidly bankrolled, you might want to find a different game.

I don't think preflop sizing was going to make a difference, and 3.5x the straddle short stacked is not a bad sizing imo. When you hit TPTK, you aren't getting away from it. And yes, that is a big straddle for 1/2.

You played this well....really unlucky is all.

Just a few days ago, I played in a live tournament and did a good job doubling my stack in the first hour and a half. The guy a few seats behind me was busy quadrupling and quintupling his stack by doing nothing but getting lucky....playing trash holdings (low connectors, any suited cards, etc.) and flopping two pair/flushes/sets.

Eventually, I got it in with 99 vs. AK (he min raised, I re-raised 3x, then he shoved, and I called, we were heads up) and he flops an ace. I'm still wondering if I should have put my tourney life on the line in this hand or not, but the blinds were increasing and I needed chips (I have an understanding of M value). I keep looking back on it and wonder if I should have folded to his pre-flop shove or not, but he was playing like this with any hand under the sun....it was almost impossible to put him on a range.

$10 straddle is insane at $1/2. You played it fine and you will earn a lot playing those villains in the long run.

Biggest issue I have is as others noted, you're playing 20BB deep. In cash, I like to be at least 100BB deep...which you would be without the straddle but that $10 is a game changer.

Anyways, yeah I'm going broke on this one every time. If this hand played out at 1/2 and you were 100BB deep, you'd probably find your way out of that one on the turn or especially the river...but that straddle makes it pretty much impossible unless you have insane jedi-caliber reading ability.
