Villain was a 42/16 @ 20 hands. I don't normally play
"bomb" pot tables but it was the only FR open.

Anyhow, with everyone in the hand pre-flop seems kinda
hard to put a range on anyone. Haven't seen this player
act out in any way really. Is this hand just an example of not
being able to get away from a TPTK hand?

ACR- $0.02 NL - Holdem - 9 players

Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

MP+1: $0.80
Hero (MP+2): $3.08
CO: $2.80

SB: $2.23
BB: $0.36
UTG: $2.49
UTG+1: $2.85
MP: $1.80

9 players post ante of $0.08 {This is what makes it a bomb pot}

UTG checks, UTG+1 checks, MP checks, MP+1 checks, Hero checks, CO checks, BTN checks, SB checks, BB checks

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.72) Hero has A K

Turn: ($1.80, 2 players) 7
Hero bets $0.90, CO raises to $2.18 and is all-in, Hero calls $1.28

River: ($6.16, 2 players) Q

I play 2NL ACR 6-max and usually prioritize sitting at bomb pot tables because the average stack size is generally larger and I think bomb pots attract splashier opponents. I also think decision making is relatively straightforward during the bomb pot hands since big aggression from typical opponents is almost always 2-pair or better giving us easy folds.

I like betting this flop because we have ok position and there is a decent chance we have the best hand. We also don't want it to check around and then give a free turn card to 8 players. I think your bet sizing is way too big though. TPTK is far from the nuts in a 9-player bomb pot, and we still have 4 players left to act, as well as all the earlier players who could have checked their 2-pair or better. A small bet gets everyone with junk to fold and potentially keeps in hands we are ahead of like middle pair or a worse ace. It also keeps the pot small in case we are beat which gives us a chance to get away.

As played, we get called by a fish and are heads up in a huge pot, aka the dream situation. The 7 is scary since middle pair was definitely in his calling range on the flop, and he could have trips, but it is equally likely that he has an ace which we can potentially extract a lot of value from since fish can't fold an ace. So I favor a smaller bet here. If he calls we can go for more value on the river and if he re-raises us we basically know that we are beat since 95% of fish are not bluffing here.

im not limping behind w/ AK pre, 1/3 pot pre sounds good to me and then just keep going 1/3 - 1/2 pot on flop based on position & player tendencies
flop is a fold to me bc. w/ a limp pot theres a big chance 7x is in villains range here

Still learning bet sizing concepts, thanks for the tip.
I thought the shove was a bluff not thinking that fish rarely
bluff..

First of all I think, its really cool, that ACR have made these bomb pot tables. Interest in online poker has been declining for around 15 years, so anything, which can make the games more fun and interesting without turning them into pure casino games should be applauded. So thumbs up to ACR for this invention. With that out of the way on to the hand.

Preflop
Since its a bomb pot there is no preflop - one person commenting seems to have missed that fact.

Flop
As has been said already one pair is not exactly the nuts in a bomb pot, since 9 players can have anything including all the possible two pair combinations. This is true regardless of board texture. 6 players have checked already, which is a small sign of weakness, but one of them could still be planning on a check-raise. So I like betting here, but its probably almost a bet-fold I guess? And for that reason I would go a little bit smaller. Good players will fold hands like second or third pair for a much smaller bet than this, when its a bomb pot, so you still get the same equity denial by betting small.

Turn
In a bomb pot his should be a good card for you, since you now beat A6, and there are less combos available of A7, 77 and 76. And he should not have called you on the flop with a naked 7X, even though he actually did. So if you had bet smaller on the flop, I would bet again hoping, the guy has a worse AX and will pay off. However its still a bet-fold, because if he raise you on the turn, one pair is never good (even though its technically now two pair).

Results
So the guy was a huge fish, and he got lucky and hit his 5 outer on the turn. This will happen from time to time, and I would not beat myself up over it to much. In more normal pots though top pair is often going to be a check on the turn, when the board pair especially with middle card, because the fact, you have top pair, makes it somewhat more likely, he could have something else like second pair, which now beat you. So in normal pots this would be a bad turn card for you and a sign to slow down.

Bomb pots create action and make it difficult to get away since the pot is already big but there are also so many people in it.

Flop bet was fine, I like the sizing. But this is a big sigh and bet/fold on the turn when raised.

Yep, bet/fold on the turn was my error here...

I'm going to try more bomb pot games in the future.

Thanks for the feedback!
