Hey there,
trying to get into cash games a little. Got 2 hands which i probably messed up quite a bit.
Looking forward to your opinion.

pokerstars - $0.02 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players

BTN: $2.34 (117 bb)
SB: $2.21 (110.5 bb)
Hero (BB): $2.00 (100 bb)
UTG: $1.73 (86.5 bb)
MP: $3.99 (199.5 bb)
CO: $1.93 (96.5 bb)

SB posts $0.01, Hero posts BB $0.02, CO posts $0.02

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.05) Hero has :as4: :ad4:
Fold, MP calls $0.02, CO checks, 2 folds, Hero raises to $0.12, fold, CO calls $0.10

Flop: ($0.27, 2 players) :qs4: :3h4: :3s4:
Hero bets $0.17, CO raises to $0.36, Hero calls $0.19

Its possible he limped with a 3, but also pretty likely its just a Q or spades type of hand (although blocking it), in hindsight i should probably have shoved here.

Turn: ($0.99, 2 players) :7h4:
Hero checks, CO bets $0.48, Hero calls $0.48

Trying to check to keep his weaker hands in the pot.

River: ($1.95, 2 players) :qc4:
Hero checks, CO bets $0.52, Hero folds

Every Q and 3 beats me now, sizing was pretty suspicious he wanted me to call i think..

Results: $1.95 pot ($0.07 rake)
Final Board: :qs4: :3h4: :3s4: :7h4: :qc4:

CO wins $1.88

And the 2nd one:

PokerStars - $0.02 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players

BTN: $2.91 (145.5 bb)
SB: $3.07 (153.5 bb)
BB: $9.33 (466.5 bb)
Hero (UTG): $3.07 (153.5 bb)
MP: $3.27 (163.5 bb)
CO: $2.15 (107.5 bb)

SB posts $0.01, BB posts $0.02

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.03) Hero has :qs4: :ah4:
Hero raises to $0.06, MP calls $0.06, fold, BTN calls $0.06, 2 folds

Flop: ($0.21, 3 players) :5h4: :jd4: :qd4:
Hero bets $0.13, fold, BTN calls $0.13

betting tptk, flush and straightdraw, aswell as lower queens and good jacks possible.

Turn: ($0.47, 2 players) :2c4:
Hero bets $0.23, BTN raises to $0.78, Hero folds

Still possible for him to have some kind of draw, didnt think the 2 helped him a whole lot, could have been QJ for 2pair or a set of 5s still, so i decided to give it up. too nitty here?!

Results: $0.93 pot ($0.03 rake)
Final Board: :5h4: :jd4: :qd4: :2c4:

BTN wins $0.90

Thanks in advance :)

The hands were played very fine, IMO. I don't think you are getting nitty just observing the board texture and the general tendency of micro-stakes players we know we cannot get fancy in most of pots and when those passive-recreational start to bet or raise we must take our horses down to the shore and drink a couple of juice.

I agree, I don't think you were out of line in either hand.

For hand #1, Villain limp- called pre, so he could have a pocket pair (fish often play low pairs defensively on paired boards) or a bad queen. I'd like to see some stats on these V's too- AF, WWSF, WTSD and VPIP/PRF ofc. If CO is sticky and likely doing this with tp, maybe a turn x shove could work, but if he's unknown I'd just call.

Hand #2- Turn raises from fish are typically strong (I know this is a huge generality) and like you my mind goes to QJ as the most likely hand. The turn was a dud and you have shown consistent strength, so its a good place to let it go.

Well played.

I would play the same way. In Hand # 1, I could have shoved on turn, but I think that I would also play the same way as you. Just as in hand # 2, I would do the same, because it's not common to see reraise on this limit, certainly the villain has two pairs, three of a kind, almost certainly.

I prefer to play exactly as you played and fold in both hands. I don't like to get involved in spots with difficult call decisions like these at these limit we're playing. At NL 2 there are many opportunities to win money in much more standard and easy hands, where we're pretty sure we are ahead and the villain pays because he just can't fold.

I think the first hand on the river is probably a call tbh, reasoning being is the preflop action. This could very much be a small pocket pair or some spade draw taking advantage of when you slow down. I think a turn barrel would of put you in a better position to evaluate and protect against draws.

The second hand I think you need to continue in this spot. It’s quite likely villain is going to try and hit a raise on you with a lot of draws, I think in this spot you want to be betting more along the lines of 3/4-pot. The reduction in the size of your bet would of indicated a fair bit of weakness to villain so he would of felt safe to barrel with the draws, top pair kind hands. Sometimes you do run into to pairs but it would be easy to get away from if the draw lands on the river

These are examples of a winning 2nl player and if you’re not a winning 2nl player keep thinking like this and you’ll do fine

AA’s are very hard to fold for 2nl players and so are Top pairs that said you need to be calling at some frequency on the turn in the second hand and river on the first just because if a reg knows he can do this against you to fold out something as strong as overpairs and Top pair good kickers he will AND I will

Well played
