Why 2 Colors

I play online poker. So everyone can choose 2 colors or 4 colors online poker. A set of 4 colors is much easiler than a set of 2 colors.
Why casinos (live poker) don´t use 4 color cards?

I wish they would go to four color decks. They are nicer, but I think they keep the standard decks because it is traditional. Four color decks would be nicer to play with.

It makes me think of the worst poker game (card-wise) that I ever played in.

A friend bought a couple bottles of "Sailor Jerry" rum that each came with a deck of cards. After drinking some, we decided to get a 4 handed poker game going: using cash (no chips) and those cards. It was, by far, the worst poker game I have ever played from a "ease of game play" perspective. The cards are almost indistinguishable from a distance and don't look like normal cards so reading the board was a pain. Here is what the cards look like.



Talk about a horrible deck for a game like hold'em. And, playing with cash (not chips) made dealing with betting that much harder.

I still have my deck of those cards (unopened) somewhere. I threw it in a box and never bothered to open them. They're unusable.

Anyway, 4 color cards with big indexes would be awesome in poker rooms. The decks they use aren't bad (like the one above would be), but that doesn't mean they couldn't be better.

There's an old saying, if it's not broken, don't fix it. Card rooms and casinos seem to already have something established that works and if it's working there's no reason for them to change it. It seems to be tradition and works for them.

You are very right because they do not use it, I think it is to avoid facilitating things for the players since in any case we would have more educational games

I see your point, but at the same time, you can use a two-color to your advantage to pick up tells. You'd prolly lose that switching to a four-color deck.

I prefer the black and red only. I am a traditionalist...I want the game to stay the way I learned it...yes, I have mistaken clubs and spades, but I have also misread A4 for AA.

Even the great Doyle Brunson talked about this in his Super System 2 book!

Doyle said the following in his book

• Doyle is not a fan of the 4-color because he is used to the 2-color
• That 4-color is not economical to print
• Mike Caro tried to do a "Color Deck Day" to try to get casinos to switch to 4-color. 65 casinos participated - ZERO casinos changed

Seems like traditions like the black-n-red of the 2 color deck will be difficult to change. Online - our choice of decks only affect us. In live play the casino has to try to make everyone - including old school guys like Doyle - happy.

I think it why not to use 4 colors.

There are no much difference into a deck of 2 or 4 colors, maybe some initial players, or with necessity of glasses, will be more helped with a 4 colors deck. Anyway, I changed my deck for a 4 colors on PS App, but I have not saw a 4 color deck in a poker clube until now, maybe there are some dificulty to buy one, or the price are high, and generally they need to buy many identical deck, in case of needed to replace one card.

I prefer the two color cards myself. I guess I am a bit of a traditionalist that way.

But agree, it would be easier for many players, especially those with compromised vision to be able to see the cards. Although I do love that tell when a player gets up out of his chair to check the suits and then checks his own hand.

This is the most under appreciated point in this thread so far. There is so much information that can be gleaned from playing with a two color deck, that is lost in a four color deck. It's counter intuitive, but truth. Heck I've made suit mistakes at a live table, which is one of the reasons why I play 4 color online.

But having that two color deck mistake possibility is a very real and exploitable thing. And I would hate to lose that tool, rare as it may be, at a live table.

Also online, I use four colors because it can be very difficult to see the suits on a small screen, or when multitabling - things that aren't a concern when playing live.

I'm sure a lot of people are familiar with the meme:
"Tradition is just peer pressure from dead people."
I tried playing with a 4 color deck for a bit, but I find myself sticking with 2 color decks myself. I don't know, perhaps it is just tradition, but maybe I just like how it looks better. 4 color decks look kind of clown-like to me. When I tried using a 4 color deck, it kind of wore off and seemed like the "new normal" but then I pulled out my 2 color decks of cards and I was like: "oh my, that was so weird, the 2 color deck looks so much better: excuse me a moment while I go wash my eyes."

Needless to say, I haven't gone back to 4 color deck since.

p.s. For those I know will ask, I experimented with a 4 color deck for about a week, but yeah, I'm sticking with 2 colors for now.

I agree. If i'm playing live I would rather see a tradition deck, it's just something I'm accustom to. While playing online though I always use a 4 color deck, allows for seeing and reading the boards easier without making mistakes when multi tabling. I feel the need for a 4 color deck isn't necessary if playing live, you're playing one hand at a time and there's no real reason for you to need a crutch with the added colors for suits, it's always the players responsibility to read the hand correctly. At the end of the day it's your job, not the dealers.

I do not know why casinos don’t use them but when I tried them online the blue and the green threw me off so I don’t like them.

I not only want - but need a 4 color deck when playing live. If I get stuck in one of the 4 outer seats it is really hard for me to differentiate the suits.

Because 4-color cards would be unfair to people with color blindness.lololoI think it will be because the 2-color cards work and they see no need to change it.Good hands.

I am starting to get used the 4 colour decks. I think its better and better as I keep using that mode .

I always use 4-color deck.

I prefer a traditional deck of cards. I'm already used to it. So I don't like 4 colors

I used to use a 4-color-deck. Therefore, I sometimes make mistakes if I play with a 2-color-deck.

Does all casinos compare the cards (the same of 2-color-deck) in poker & in black jack?

You can buy them quite easily on E-Bay, and I certainly would not advise changing one card in a full deck if it has different wear pattern, then it would be easy to spot. If one card is bent, dog eared on marked the whole deck is ruined and you should throw the lot out and replace them.
I usually give them to my kids to play snap with.
