At my local Casino i see a lot of tournaments with - for me - weird add-on and rebuy values

for example:
100 buy for 12k Chips
45 rebuy (1x) 15k Chips
45 add-on (before first break) 25k Chips

first of all it is Pretty obvious that they try to squeeze every Cent out of their customers.

but for me it feels unfair to everyone who is not going to use the add-on. you pay half the buy-in and get twice the starting stack, so it's 4x the value and really tempting to pay for it.

even if you double up to 25k, you are behind everyone else who just bought the add-on.
happened to me the first time i played one of those. i was ~top third of the field and after the add-on, which i didn't use because i though i did well, i was at the Bottom third…
it was really frustrating for me and i ended busting QQ vs AA against someone i covered before the add-on.

so would you Always use the add-on because it's worth it?
is their a line where you say you won't us it (like 4x starting stack)?
are those values for rebuy/add-on normal?

i am planning to Play a Tournament with those 'structures' tomorrow
Buy-In: € 58,- 1 Rebuy - 1 Add-On
Rebuy/Add-On: € 50,-
Chips: 12.000 / 15.000 / 25.000
any suggestions regarding the add-on?

with those prices and how much chips you get back...TAKE IT!! even if I was chipleading the tournament I'd still take the add-on and/or rebuy, tons of value here, take it and report back on how you do :)

Of course this is a very unpleasent behaviour, sadly it happens more and more often.
I think the only way is to calculate the entry fee that includes all add-ons and compare it with the winning prize. In you case the entry is 58+50+50=158.
Then if the prize is still attractive for 158 go for it, otherwise do not play.

In a tournament, your Chip Stack is leverage..... (I can stack you if you are wrong) - that is a lot of value. Any tournament I enter I plan to buy the max chips always... You are also losing max value if you dont have your maximum stack possible because you did not start with your max stack. If you cash well the value of those chips will be realized and be much more valuable than the cost of the Add-on etc... If the cost of an Add-on is such a concern you might look for a tournament with a lower buy in.

Yes, it is totally structured to incentivize the additional Add-ons to profit the casino. I see more tournaments set this way, sucks, but the way it is...
