I play online mostly and treat myself to a live game at the nearest casino an hour and a half away once every couple of months. Maybe when I’m rolled to play mid stakes the drive would be worth making daily.

Anyways, since they don’t see me there 6 times a week I think they profile me as a fish when I sit down. And a LOT of players get my attention and flash me their cards. What I suspect is they profile me and want to set up plays for later by showing me that they folded the nut flush draw etc. It’s usually when they fold something like the 2nd nuts or the nut draw. Almost to prove how solid they are. And it’s not once or twice for the fun of the whole table, it’s only to me and it happens excessively.

It’s always the same motion at this casino. Both cards vertical in the palm with one slightly angled and a side to side motion. Literally everyone shows their cards this way.

What they don’t realize is they are giving me information. Oh, you will fold the nut flush draw on the turn to a 1/3 pot bet? You play K3o from UTG? I think to myself. But every time I go since I go so sparingly, no one recognizes me even though I remember seeing them (they see so many new faces at the tables daily when I have only been to those tables a few times).

Long story short, I don’t understand the excessive showing of cards to only one or two players at the table. It is usually directed to me and it happens a lot. I don’t show unless I have to.

What are your opinions?

Hm i dont like it to show cards to people, because i dont know if they can read me better after that. Some players can use it to effect and improve there own play. I think its you decision what you do^^ it depends on how confident you feel.

never show your cards!

i never show cards.

it gives away information and most who use it try use it as some kind of strategy but it definitely reveals more about overall playing style than it gains.

suckers

guess people showing cards try to suck other people to be overaggressive in the belief they are bluffing or try get people to fold because they want to try build an super tight image - but people falling for that will loose anyway so not much value and if you show bettrcplayers just get a better read of your playing style - never show!

I show my cards when I want to give an opponent information, never because of ego or taunting. Basically, I want to enforce a playing style to them. I only do it when I know it will benefit me. Oh, and if I have a royal flush. :)

I always thought that if a player shows his cards to another player, the whole table is entitled to see them, and the dealer should enforce that.

Personally, I don’t care because I am not going to play professional poker player so, why should I try? I will muck as much as I can. If I got str8 flush or higher then I will show.

Many places you'll play have different things that the players are in the habit of doing.

Also, since they don't know you they may be trying to get you to show cards too.

More than likely, imo, these people are playing more socially and can afford to lose at whatever stakes we're talking, so they're quite comfortable.

Flash them great cards and than bluff them ,[emoji38]

If we're talking lower stakes they're most likely hard to bluff, esp versus a whole table.

I'd prefer to go with the opposite. Flash them trash, and come right back at them with strong holdings.

Once again in poker it's situational, and depends on your opponents styles of play.

I like it when other players do it with a crazy bluff or the opposite. I always make a note. But when folks show their 72o when I steal their blind, it just tells me that they don't play much. Sometimes I make a note of that too.

Of course it they call a rise with 72o out of position I definitely make a note of that.

Personally, I never show my cards.

My casino has a strict rule, "Show one show all". If you get caught showing only a single player your cards you're penalized for 10 minutes.

I thought all places had this type of rule.

Every casino I've been to has that rule. Not the 10 minute timeout but you cant just show off your cards to a single player

Been there before.
You say “oh wow they’re giving me info. They’ll fold to this and that”

If it’s just you being shown cards, and it’s every time you go, they clearly don’t take you as any type of threat. Only way to beat that is to beat them in pots.

Gotta beat them enough till they find an easier target

I have yet to experience that, only someone shows the whole table or nothing but I don't get out more than 1 of 3 months due to a similar drive. Curious if its a rule to show all or not at Mohegun Sun or Foxwoods

Poker is not a "collect combination" game. Real life poker sure isn't. You're playing against a person, and you have to study the behavior. People are showing their cards for different reasons, but mainly it's because they're "planting the seeds" in your brain. Using these "seeds" they might bluff next time or start a sequence that will put you on tilt.

I recommend you to read "Games people play" by Eric Berne... This books is not about poker, but author is a good psychologist who represented all relations between humans as game transactions. Actually indeed all communications and actions that we do are games that we play with each other. Sometimes we can cheat and win, for example if there is a long line of people waiting for something that you need, you can also stand in the line and wait for all people infront of you to pass, or you can cheat somehow and save your time and bypass the line. So, in general, people are showing their cards to start a game with you that does not include cards, they want you to think about something. That's where manipulation starts. Psychology teaches you how to defend or attack manipulators and ofc how to understand what type of manipulation is being used in this current moment of time.

LOL
read my post above and quit playing like some robosapiense.
What would you say if the person who bluffed and showed you has also made a note, and will perform exactly the same sequence of actions next time against you with nut hand?
Majority of people who show their cards are trying to manipulate, it's hard to do that in online poker, so actually it's better to not pay attention to such things in online games and instead pay attention to HUD stats. However showing bluffs in online poker DO increase average level of TILT at the table.

Out of the large sum of players I’ve played with at live tournament houses I always enjoyed one fellow I used to know who was a Korean War vet by the name of smitty. Coolest guy I’ve ever met, won more tournaments then most the regulars and frequently showed his cards during a hand to other players and always had got away with it cos he was of older age

It sounds like the regulars are trying to mess with your head lol
I don't show either. I have, but it's very rare. People who show me their cards when they bluffed make me laugh though.
