Dear friends! I have never participated in live tournaments. Share your experience in live tournaments. And give one or two tips that could help a new member ..

I didn't participate either, only in home games. I think we'll have to look decent after all. That's the main thing.

in our country there are special game zones in other places poker is banned, and so last year I went to an underground poker tournament, not describing these feelings live is much harder to play, the total of 115 people covered us with police; I personally spent 72 hours until the third of January. here are such impressions of poker live in Russia

You have to watch the action more carefully. Don't be shy to ask the dealer for anything.

Ask the floor in that room what their tournament rules are.

Some rooms have a rule sheet to read. Read it!

If they go by TDA rules then read those. The latest edition does give the floor wide discretion in which rules they enforce and how they are enforced.

Talk to the tournament director. Ask him/her what the biggest mistakes he/she gives penalties for in that room.

Good luck !

Live Tournaments

As others have said be sure to read and understand the rules of that tournament as have learned some have different rules. If possible find a low cost entry tournament to start off with to get your feet wet as I am sure you would be a tad nervous the 1st time and others can pick up on this fact.

Keep to your game play and don't play other players but play your cards-- meaning don't fall into folding if your cards are good just because others raise your bet.

Best to ya!

So far I did not have the opportunity to play a live tournament but what I understand is with the same strategies of when you play with your friends, so start cautious while deducing your opponents

A few tips from a live player .

Push/fold charts are irrelevant unless you have less than 5BB.

Play tight when the table is loose, and play loose agressive when the table nits up.

Do not let people into flops cheap and don't let people make you feel bad for not allowing family pots. Raise if you are coming into the pot.

Don't take advice at the table from other players unless it's on etiquette.

Take something to record your hands for review later and don't be surprised if you are sat at a table with some pros . Do not let said pros worry you. Play your game, let them play theirs.

Do not get into dick measuring contest for your whole stack before the money bubble unless you have the nuts.

Us your chips as information gathering tools, and understand that your chips are worth more later on in the tourney.

Do not listen to players who claim it's their first tourney. Everyone is a liar at the felt.

Preflop pushes even with aces is not recommended . See a flop.

This isn't online poker and no body will play like they do online.
You will be hated if you are winning, expect a ton of whining as well.

If you are making friends , and talking it up, you will likely lose. Focus on your game. Use this as an opportunity to work on live tells. No matter what anyone here says tells , both verbal and physical are present and offer info. I suggest listening to a book on both.

Go to win. You don't give a damn about cashing. You are going to win so play like you are.

Also, Older people 50a and 60s tend to play super tight Doyle Brunsons Supersyatem style poker. Top hands only. Younger cats are gonna be agressive. People in the middle are the ones to worry about.

Behave as a proffesional in your field. Do not give out the strenght of your hand with your emotions or your actions. Relax and enjoy the game.

Tournaments live in Poker rooms or casinos

Pretty much the same,
Some there for fun
Some of the sport
Some for money,
All skill levels show up,
You get a dealer, if good controls and announces the action, keeps the game moving.
Some rooms are stricter than others on out of turn play and mistakes, card flipping, never show to neighbours...
