I find this hand pretty interesting, I like Phil's re-raise pre-flop. As for his bet on the flop I don't hate it at all even though it could have been slightly smaller as Doug Polk states, just to keep the pot smaller in case of a poor card run-out. I myself would have bet around 1700ish give or take a 100 or 2.

As for the turn I absolutely hate the slow down check, it just seems very weak and scared in a spot where you opponent is unlikely to have a flush. It's hard to make flushes and slowing down here to just a call and not a raise is very poor in my opinion, you just give your opponent so much space to make a move on you on the river. In this case that is exactly what happens with the strongest possible bet made, a bet that really puts Hellmuth in a tough spot and I don't think he makes this bet if a strong bet was made on the turn by Hellmuth. Although if he did make this play with a strong bet on the turn it would almost seem very fishy as a flush draw is unlikely to call 2 big bets twice just to hit, unless your opponent is one that likes fishing and what I here about this certain opponent, that would be very untrue.

I think that the river is very well played by Phil's opponent against him, putting the maximum pressure on him with an all in. This is most likely because of that very weak check back on the turn, he also has the nut blocker which is a very nice thing to have in this spot, being that your the only person that could have the possible nuts. Although he could of had the nut flush, it is very unlikely, and a weak check back on the turn is not the way to find out what he may be holding, it's almost like giving up on the hand in my opinion (scared poker). Bets will generally give you a ton of information if you use them properly. In this spot a large bet would have told him a good amount of information, he only had roughly 8500 left, the pot was 8500, the play was all in in my opinion.

If your opponent happens to call you and he has a flush then so be it, you got extremely unlucky with AA as it does happen sometimes. But the plus side in this spot is your opponent may gamble here with a nut flush card and two overs or a worse over pair(depending on what you may think he has), depending on your opponent it might not be to crazy a gamble for him. You could even make a 5500 or so big bet that may be more enticing for him to gamble leaving you with 3000 behind which you are never folding on any river, if he gets there he gets there so be it. I like a shove here personally but it really depends on the type of player you are.

After the river comes out, it is almost a done deal for a very aggressive pro with the Nut flush blocker (meaning no one else could have the nuts but him at this point) and Phil's weak, scared check back on the turn. He just ships his stack in the middle which is a ballsy play in my opinion but a very good one. He probably new Phil had a hand like he had and knew Phil is not the type of player to make iffy calls on the river without a huge made hand. A great shove by a great player in my opinion, and Phil can absolutely not call in this spot, full of maybes (maybe he has this? maybe he has that?). I believe a big bet or shove on the turn changes make up of this hand and who won it completely.

Mike Matusow in this hand makes a ridiculous poor, truthful comment in this hand, whether Phil believed him or not, I think Matusow was extremely out of line. For a player of mikes "standard" I think he made a horrible comment that could have possibly played a big part in this hand. I have never liked Mike Matusow and always thought he was a very poor player and a even worse sport in poker. This horrible comment almost proves my point entirely in my opinion(he is just pure trash for many of reasons). I think Phil took the loss pretty well for him lol, even tho he had some choice words for Matusow. I personally would have absolutely lost my mind on the fish Matusow for blabbing his hand mid-pot( he is an absolute moron and has no respect for others).

All in all I enjoyed watching this video from live at the bike. Its good seeing some of the old timers playing some good ol' cash game with some new blood and other regs. If you happen to watch this whole video, I am excited to see what some of your comments are, and hear what you folks think of the hand. This post was mostly how I felt about the hand and is entirely just my opinion on things, and how I might have played it, yours could be entirely different but i'm interested in finding out what opinions you guys have on the hand. I think he is just acting like that because he gets more attention and it gives people the impression that he is not a real professional. His reactions really are funny. I keep imagining Hellmuth doing stand-up.
