Hi
I play a lot of live tournaments with 3-4 tables of 9 players.

Before the start I get a choice of seat selection, does it matter or every seat is the same?

Please advice
Thanks

You get to choose your seat? I've never heard of that before. Is the table empty when you sit down?

Seat selection

I like to be in the middle of the table . Its just easier being close to the dealer and most comfortable for me. At the end of the table is ok as well. But I never heard where you get to pick your seat in a tourney. I always thought its picked by random or every player pulls a card or seat number.

The normal procedure is to pick a card.
But at the start no ones on time so being a regular I get to pick a seat of my choice and I normally sit next to the dealer.

But my question was whether there is a benefit to pick a spot.

Avoid the seats next to the dealer

If you get to pick the seat take the one that works best for you...i particularly like the 2,3,7 & 8 seats...I find its easier to see everyone and their stacks from these spots...when you are right next to the dealer there tends to be more mistakes that affect you (people acting out of turn including the dealer)....but sitting right next to the dealer is good if you like chatting with them

Otherwise no strategic advantage until other players are seated/known

I do recall once someone telling me that by sitting next to the dealer is good for making you feel more comfortable psychologically sense you have a netural (hopefully) party immediately next to you instead of competitor on each side...i personally dont see that and have been burned too many times by mistakes (hands mucked, skipped over in action, cant see the full stack of the person on the otherside of the dealer...)

Well, I guess if I had a choice I would want strong players on my right so I can act after them... and weaker players on left so I can punish their blinds. But other than that I would take any seat other than 1 or 9 because I don't want to be next to the dealer. I'm curious though, if you can select your seat, is it first come first serve? I've never heard of this. Most casinos won't let you choose a seat unless you have some type of valid reason (i.e. vision or hearing impaired).

Hi
The casino where I play has a poker field of approximately 30 players on a regular basis( some new faces now n than).

So when its time to take your seat no one really cares what seat you pick.

Thats why the question! Does it make a difference?

Thanks

Poker-wise there is no difference.

If the button position is known (some places draw for the button - some places always start the button in the 10-seat, etc.) then you would want to start behind the button.

But even that really doesn't matter much for the first poker level - it is the minimum blinds before they start going up.

Aside from personal preference - coming in behind the button - and being on the left of loose players - there is no real difference.

Good luck !
