The general rule is that if your cards are not over the line then you have not folded, but there are times that the dealer will grab your cards anyways after you have called and throw them into the muck. It happened to me once when I was in the seat next to the dealer. The dealer called for a ruling and the floor manager said that the cards should stay in the muck because I am required to protect my cards. I have a 1922 peace silver dollar that is covered in plastic so the dealer won't misinterpret the coin as a tip. The last time that I played I forgot to bring the card protector, but I thought it would be okay because I was sitting in seat 5 in the middle of the table. I called with K7o in a multiway pot but the dealer reached across the table and mucked my cards. The flop was of course K77.

I just saw this the other day in a tournament. The poor guy raised in LP and got 2 callers. Boom - cards gone - floor called - hand deemed mucked - board runs out and someone else wins.

Always protect your cards.

Good luck !

I never got into such a situation and I think it is not fair. Now I will protect my cards. Thank. Good luck to all!

Yup, you will learn, first thing you always do is put a chip on your cards. EVERY TIME.

this has happened to me before too when I had big slick on the button at the 9 seat... I had the cards close to me and I turned around to answer a buddy's question next thing I know the cards are in the muck... i look at the deal and asked why he mucked my cards? he said I thought you folded.. I didn't get mad I just whispered in his ear that he cost me money... so you won't get tipped on my next 5 wins lol

Yes , had good old 8s pre flop in position , hit my damn 8 on the flop called the raises turn came and the waitress came back with my beer , I rookie moved to turn and grab my beer set it down BOOM cards gone. Dealer said he heard "fold" floor came over , everyone at the table was fighting for my hand saying I didnt say fold at all . I told the floor my exact cards and they still folded my hand. The guy who won the pot gave me the money I put into the pot. The casino later on in the evening gave me vouchers to the buffet because they were wrong with folding the hand and told me if it were a tournament it would be automuck but in cash they could have reset my hand. Was a huge learning experience

I was at a table where there was an allin, and the dealer misread the board and mucked the winning hand. It got super awkward and uncomfortable because the pit boss was not decisive on what the ruling was. They ended up letting the player say his hand out loud, and looked to see if the cards were together, and on top of the muck. They ended up correcting it, but I think it was because the person who was awarded the hand initially was also thrown off and just wanted to proceed. I was baffled at the whole situation and just sat there doing nothing lol.

I feel ya!! Sitting in the number one seat, pocket 44, flopped a set and the dealer scooped my cards up. I did get a free room for the night! The same dealer, about 10 hands later does the same thing with my hand again.

I know a card protector is a good idea, but I would like to here from a major casino floor manager whether it is required. The dealer and this particular floor manager kept arguing that it was my fault and not the dealers. I don't really like using card protectors, but i do now more. I watch a lot of poker video and many of the players don't use card protectors and I think if it was a common problem or rule to protect their cards they would be aware and do it.

I also didn't like the arrogance of the dealer and floor manager. At least they should be apologetic and empathetic.

It's never happened to me, but I've seen it happen a couple times. In all cases, it was generally sloppy on the part of the player. Always put a chip on your cards and you'll never have the issue.

Same - never had it happen to me but saw a guys hand get mucked once and he was pretty pissed about it...if i remember correctly he flopped the nut straight. He left the table after the ruling of "protect your cards". Its common - throw the chip on the cards and dont sweat it.

Now i had one instance here recently where i got it all in with JJ on A 2 10 10 J - board

Opponent turned over A 10 and the dealer said - "aces full" and reached for my jacks until i put my hand on them and corrected him... i didnt get sh*tty i just said "10s full...hes got 10s full and Jacks full beats 10s full".

Sometimes you've gotta watch em but as far as being mucked at random - protect them and it wont happen.

I'm sorry you had to experience that. I can't recall it ever happening to me. I always at least put a chip on them but my wife recently got me a cool card protector, I can't imagine forgetting to bring it. Funny how image means more that the game itself.

This is actually a little more common than you think, especially in tournaments. As a player the responsibility does fall on you. The dealer is there to speed the game up. Yes there is a muck line usually and yes card protectors are a great idea (even chips don't work all the time), but paying attention acting in turn, and speaking your action before you do it will also help.

Always table a winning hand and even a loser if it's a big hand. As mentioned sometimes hands get called out wrong by the dealers, so if you table your hand they can always check the video surveillance to verify.

Now my story...New guy sat down got into a hand with a reg KKJJx board. Money got all in on the river reg had KK new guy sighed said man i had Jack's. The whole table froze. We couldn't say anything really...but one person asked pocket jacks? He said yeah then tabled the hand right before he flipped them in the muck...guy didn't realize he just hit the bad beat jackpot.

Oh and if you aren't at the table in a tournament they will deal you in then muck your cards immediately even if the action is not on you.
Cash game they just won't deal you in.

He tabled the hand. Everyone got paid. Luckily for us they booth review all of those calls! The only thing we were worried about was saying anything. You cannot ask questions during play to induce bad beat action. Like if it folds to the blinds you can't ask the big blind if he's got a playable hand. That casino had tried to void a bad beat because of an excited player tossing his hand down had a card pop onto the floor which in their eyes made the hand dead. That one went to court players won.

ONCE

My probable winning hand got mucked by mistake once. And after that I learned my lesson and I am forever covering my cards.

Yeah saddly this happens more than it should...i once had a dealer remove a stack of chips (5) on my cards so he could muck them when it wasnt even my turn to act...in tournaments now when I'm in the 1 or 10 seat i just keep a hand on the cards till they go face up or in the muck...it sucks...but it's totally your responsibility...seen it happen more times than i can count

Yes I've had it happen and same thing, I lost my chips and should have protected my cards. I should use protectors more often but I like peeking at my cards a few times (whatever they are) and the protector gets in the way. I should probably get rid of my bad habit of peeking more than once.

It happened once to me when I was in position 10, just to the right of the dealer. I was a real newby to both live poker and this casino. I was so surprised, embarrassed and shocked that I said nothing, while my ears turned bright red.

It was the worst feeling ever because I had Aces smh. Was sitting in the 9 seat at the Aria and at the time, didn’t understand why people had cars protectors.......but after that day I made sure to at least put a chip on top if I’m sitting in the 1 or 9 seat

Memorizing your cards after you've looked is a good habit to learn. Some people think that when you are peeking at your cards too many times you are showing weakness. Also, everybody at the table that is watching you can get a read on your reaction. You'll get better at it with more practice. :)

I don’t use a card protector. I tend to keep my hands on my cards. I know most people do chip riffling, but I don’t know how to do that, lol.
