Hi guys,

Weird thing happened when I was playing at live the other day. I dont do it often so unsure what correct ruling is.

Hand is unimportant but 2 semi regulars (I think) were playing a pot HU at the river. Player 1 bets river and player 2 calls on a 732 2 Q board and shows KT for King high. The player 2 flips a 7 (unclear if its accidental or on purpose) and the other stays face down no way near the muck. The dealer waits a few seconds then claims the facedown card killing player 2s hand. And begins to award the pot to player 1. Floor is called and supports the dealers ruling. Player 2 storms off.

What is the correct ruling and why?

I am not a live player, but if a few seconds passed, then surely the guy had time to flip over his other card, if he wanted to show down?

Noone told him that, and the 7 alone gave him the winner

Thats true. Does seem fairly odd then. In my opinion the dealer should have told him "sir please show both your cards".

The decision is correct, since if they face the showdown and the player proposing the action shows the cards, the other has 2 options, hides its streets or shows the 2 cards.
Greetings.

Rules state that in a cash game if it comes down to the river, the agressor /raiser must show his cards during a showdown. You have to show the hand someone paid to see . you cannot only show one. Also, the 7 made a winning hand and the dealer should of flipped the other card face up and declared the winner. This is piss poor dealing which i've seen plenty of trust me. Floor should of made both players flip both cards and ruled who won from there.

I dont think the player who flipped the 7 which is common in a cash game {players showing only 1 card at showdown.} was trying to muck. he knew he won and didn't want to show the other card which i highly believe was either an A or a 7. likely two friends and the dealer made a huge mistake.

Its unclear if he intentionally flipped only one or if he accidentally did it. He was talking about picking off the bluff

In a room I play in - the dealer will not flip the 2nd card over for the player.

The player must flip the 2nd card over to have a winning hand. Usually it is just accidental wavering of a card in the air - so that player either has to reach for it or the dealer pushes both cards - one up and one down back to the player so that they can turn the 2nd card up.

I have seen a player hold up his "winning" card with both cards in the palm of his hand but only showing the one "important" card that made a pair. And the other player mucks. And so does the "winning" player - technically no hand was tabled.

Good luck !

I say the floor made the correct ruling. Ultimately, its up to the player to table his cards and to protect his hand. Dealer could have (and should have imo) reminded the player that both cards need to be shown to win the hand though.

In any casino I’ve played at, showing only one card, as long as it shows that you have won the hand, is enough to take the pot in a cash game. It’s different in a tournament, where both cards must be shown.
