If you want to win money, it is better not to combine poker and alcohol. But if you just want to have fun and losing money will not be a tragedy, then why not.

I didn't mix poker and alcohol because I think it's a weakness. You will become a target for good players.

I will always drink, and play poker. Seems for myself goes good, just don't get drunk. Play extremely stupid when drunk did it once never again.

I do not drink alcohol while playing. If I’m getting ready to leave the cash table then I may get a round or 2 in but that’s rarely ever. If I had a good time with my table I may be social towards the end but never to excess. Never am I risking my chips while impaired and unable to think clearly.

Alcohol expands our ranges too much, which will affect the result of the game :)

I’ll have a drink or two in the very early stages of a tournament, if I’m in the mood for it. I metabolise alcohol very quickly so they’re out of me within an hour and after that it’s tea, juices, and soft drinks only.

Never drink at the table. I'm OK with those who drink moderately. Sitting at the table with a mean drunk is not fun.

I admit I do drink at the table but most people are shocked at what I order. I actually started to drink chocolate milk when I play live. Besides it being good for me and that I love it, I found that during long sessions I would not get as hungry when I played and was able to concentrate longer. Yes it is odd but whatever work.

I may have one drink of I'm feeling a little uptight. But that's it.

I played poker a couple of times drunk, and I allowed myself only because the entry fee for the tournament is very cheap and all the rivals are familiar and have a good time with them. Playing on an unfamiliar field for good money, I would not drink, but not the fact that I would not shake when trying to bluff. Having drunk a little, you don’t realize the responsibility and account for your actions, you become more guided, it becomes easier to promote you, which in such a game is unacceptable and fraught with defeat.

At a home game, I always have a few beers and a laugh with friends.

At a casino or online, absolutely not! Fastest way to blow your entire BR.

I avoid playing after drinking. Alcohol diminishes my concentration, resulting in me not paying enough attention to what my opponents are doing. Also if I'm drunk I struggle to remember what happened from one hand to the next, thereby (obviously) having a negative impact on my play.

Alcohol makes you relaxed. It's recommended to play after drink or two. :)

While I can do almost everything else after one drink I find that with poker one pint is enough to make me less attentive and a bit more reckless. I would avoid it. Alternatively you can try eating a very fatty meal beforehand as the alcohol won't hit you as much, that way and you can pretend to be drunk so they think you're a fish [emoji39]

Playing poker while drinking is just as bad as drinking while golfing. The game is already hard enough..

I'll usually drink 3 or 4 beers over the course of a few hours and make bigger than normal value bets. It usually leads to good results, especially if it's the 3rd or 4th beer. The downside is I do not pay as much attention to what everyone else is doing around me (the little things like how they are betting/playing with their chips, ect..) but if I'm at a casino it's to have a good time.

Just my 2 cents.

I can't play sober anymore. Obviously if you don't feel comfortable don't do it, but there are a few positives people are missing:

1. This may just be a me thing, but when I'm just concentrating on playing poker I get extremely bored. I used to play up to 16-20 tables online, so sitting there playing at a slow table can be incredibly boring and I actually play way looser when I'm not drinking/chatting with other people.
2. It's easier to get action when drinking. First off they don't realize how tight you're playing they just think of you as the drunk guy/girl, and even if they do think you're playing tight fish are a lot more likely to want to play with you/pay you off if you're drinking and having fun with them. I had one guy call a $450 preflop raise blind at a 5/10 table because I was his "nemesis". He then called off the other 2k on the flop with his underpair. He probably knew he was behind (I had AA lol), but the money was nothing to him and he was willing to spend that on playing with a "fun" player. The nits with the headphones and sunglasses he was much less happy to splash around with.
3. If you've been playing the game for awhile you're probably not going to all of a sudden start doing terrible things while drinking. I definitely loosen up and 3-bet a bit more than optimal on occasion but it's not like I'm going to start calling the river with J high.

Anyway like I said not applicable to everyone and if you don't feel comfortable drinking and playing definitely don't, but definitely some positives to weigh against the negatives of impaired decision-making.

Personally, I do not drink alcohol while playing poker. But I think 2-3 drinks would not hurt and maybe relax a bit when you're excited.

However, a lot of alcohol can be dangerous for your bankroll, especially if you play cashgame and not a tournament.:D
